College Football Props of the Week: Week 3

Mario Williams easily crushed his receiving prop last week, which was a big win for us, but unfortunately the NC State-Tennessee game was a letdown in terms of passing offense, which caused both QBs to brick their props. We roll into Week 3 of the college football season with several props that I’m really excited about and can’t wait to share with you. Let’s get into it.

Malachi Fields (Virginia) 100+ Receiving Yards

(+190, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Fields is one of the best receivers in the ACC and possibly all of college football. With Malik Washington in the NFL, Fields has ascended to the alpha role in this Virginia offense. The maturation and development of QB Anthony Colandrea since last year has further raised Fields’ profile. He has caught 16 of his 19 targets for 248 yards through his first two games. He racked up 148 yards against Wake Forest in Week 2 and 100 yards exactly against Richmond in Week 1.

Now let’s talk about the matchup. The Cavs are going up against the Maryland Terps, a team whose secondary just surrendered 8-194-2 to Nick Marsh in a back breaking loss to Michigan State. Not good enough for you? They also gave up 5-141-0 to UConn’s Skyler Bell. The common theme here is that WR1s have shredded the Terps so far. This is my favorite prop of the season to this point.

Kaleb Johnson (Iowa) 100+ Rushing Yards

(+170, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Iowa lost to rival Iowa State last week in a heartbreaker, but there was a positive that came out of that game. That was Kaleb Johnson. He has seized the RB1 gig and proceeded to rack up 187 yards on 25 carries. The writing was on the wall after week 1 when he rushed for 119 yards on just 11 carries against Illinois State … in one half. Iowa is playing Troy, and this is relevant because it’s an elite DVP spot for RBs. Memphis back Mario Anderson piled up 125 yards on 17 carries against the Trojans last week and Nevada RB Savion Red gashed them for 135 yards on just 11 carries prior to that. Run, don’t walk, to bet this prop.

Darian Mensah (Tulane) 250+ Passing Yards

(+400, DraftKings Sportsbook)

I’m sold on the redshirt freshman after his masterclass performance against Kansas State last week in a game that saw the referees rob them due to a questionable penalty. This is an ideal gamescript for Mensah, as Tulane is nearly 2 touchdown dogs to Oklahoma on the road so we can expect him to throw the football often. It’s early, but the Sooners rush defense has been strong so far, and this is a trend that I expect to continue into conference play. I actually think Mensah could clear 300 passing yards in this game and we know he is capable of doing so after he threw for 342 against Kansas State.

I will also be parlaying these three props together on DK, which gives us odds of +3815. I get a warm fuzzy feeling about this one.
