Week 5 of the college football season has something for everyone. Intriguing offensive matchups as well as games with physicality as the priority. The featured game in this breakdown will be between the LSU Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels.

These SEC West rivals come into this matchup with identical 3-1 records. LSU gutted out a tough win over the Arkansas Razorbacks thanks to a masterful performance by Jayden Daniels. Something about the SEC has awakened a beast because his passing numbers continue to impress in ways he simply never showed while he was in the Pac-12 with Arizona State.

The Rebels dropped a close one to Alabama 24-10 as they remain plagued by injuries to key players at multiple positions.

Let’s dig into this matchup and find the best possible angle to attack.

Odds are per DraftKings Sportsbook.

LSU Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels

Spread: LSU -2.5 (-110), Ole Miss +2.5 (-110)
Moneyline: LSU -142, Ole Miss +120
Total: Over 67.5 (-110), Under 67.5 (-110)

The Rebels defense gave up over 300 yards passing to Haynes King of Georgia Tech, struggled at times against Tulane’s backup QB and made Jalen Milroe of Alabama look like one of the most accurate passers in college football. None of those players are at the skill level of the dynamic Jayden Daniels.

Through four games, Daniels has thrown for almost 1,300 yards and scored 14 total TDs (12 passing/2 rushing). It’s safe to say that the Rebels defense is going to have its hands full when it comes to trying to contain him.

LSU’s receiver room has two elite options in Malik Nabers (32-523-5) and Brian Thomas (25-413-5). This is a pick your poison situation for the secondary and they aren’t going to have the ability to cover them both.

The Tigers are ranked 8th in the nation in total offense, which includes the ninth-best passing attack and 55th-best rushing attack. Defensively, LSU is 63rd in total defense and 50th against the run.

Despite Ole Miss having an electric combo of their own in QB Jaxson Dart and RB Quinshon Judkins, injuries have really kept their offense from reaching its true upside. At the end of the day, I trust LSU’s offensive to make more plays and their defense to make more stops. I’m riding with them even on the road.
