Multiple times each week, FTN Bets’ resident college basketball junkie, Brad Evans, will attempt to posterize the ‘books with his favorite selections, whether sides, totals, teasers or parlays. As always, fade or follow Brad’s picks — fading is encouraged — that’s up to you.

2-leg alternative line parlay play: Boise St. (+2.5), Iowa (+6.5) (Tipico Sportsbook)

Odds: +126

Leg 1: Boise St. (+2.5) at Colorado St.

Two nights ago, when these two Mountain West foes exchanged pleasantries, Boise St.’s high-powered offense received treatment on par with RobinHood’s approach to AMC — delisted. It was a rare humbling moment for Leon Rice’s group of high-octane scorers. The Broncos not only posted their lousiest points per possession mark on the season (0.802), they also surrendered their third-highest output on defense (1.117). The combination of unskillful shooting and Colorado St.’s plunged daggers along the arc (40.0% 3PT%) bucked the Broncos for the first time since November. As several series have proven, the second game in the Mountain West’s back-to-back setup has often gone quite differently. Unless Derrick Alston and Friends sample some of Colorado’s finest homegrown products pregame, it’s doubtful they will execute as sluggishly. To ensure that, they must extend to the perimeter, draw whistles, convert and simply play organized. CSU’s inside-outside tandem of David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens can fill up the cup, but bank on Boise to exhibit renewed energy on defense. Also, it’s unlikely the Broncos shoot another 5-of-23 from three. Revenge? It’s undoubtedly on the mind.

Leg 2: Iowa (+6.5) at Illinois

Iowa and Illinois last took the court during the Pleistocene Age, minus the saber-toothed cats. COVID-19 impacts tied to Michigan St. and an unusually long eight-day mid-conference siesta for the Hawkeyes kept both teams out of action. It’s anyone’s best guess who will come out rustier. Chances are it won’t be the visiting team. Iowa played its worst half of the season in its last appearance, at home versus Indiana. Clanked shots. Missed layups. Uneven flow. Outside of bloody-nosed Luka Garza and Joe Weiskamp, the Hawkeyes were unusually lethargic. Consider it an anomaly. Fran McCaffrey’s beautifully spaced offense is orchestral in its movements. Fluid and effective, it creates driving lines, kick-out opportunities and transition buckets, all of which Iowa normally executes uninhibitedly. It’s why it ranks No. 1 nationally in points per possession scored (1.246), netting 55.5% inside the arc and 38.4% out. Illinois is capable of matching blow-for-blow, but its infuriating inconsistency prompts multiple questions. The Illini rank top-25 in offensive and defensive efficiency, but if their rotations along the perimeter lag, Weiskamp, Jordan Bohannon and CJ Frederick are sure to bury them under an avalanche of threes. In what should be a heated video game-like affair featuring a clash of titans, Garza vs. Kofi Cockburn, expect the Fightin’ Frans to stay close.
