Multiple times each week, FTN Bets’ resident college basketball junkie, Brad Evans, will attempt to posterize the ‘books with his favorite selections, whether sides, totals, teasers or parlays. As always, fade or follow Brad’s picks — fading is encouraged — that’s up to you.
2-leg alternative line parlay play: BYU/Gonzaga 157.5 OVER, Colorado ML (Tipico Sportsbook)
Odds: +175
Leg 1: BYU/Gonzaga OVER 157.5
Usain Bolt behind the wheel of an Aventador S with Tyreek Hill riding shotgun. This is the brisk pace BYU/Gonzaga is bound to be. Buckle up and have an oxygen tank within arm’s reach. The ‘Zags are the seventh-fastest team in the country. BYU, though slower, is a breathtaking No. 94 in adjusted tempo. Jalen Suggs and Co. attack the basket unlike any other team in the nation. They bombard from three and slash to the tin undeterred. Thus far, they’ve tallied an absurd 1.222 points per possession, converted on 65.2% of their two-point attempts and generated a second chance on 34.8% of their possessions. Simply put, Mark Few’s crew is relentless in their pursuit of points. The Cougars pale in comparison but are no slouches offensively. They jack treys 41.4% of the time netting a respectable 34.5 percent. Alex Barcello, one of the most prolific rainmakers in college basketball, shoots a ridiculous 63.4% from distance. Gonzaga’s defense surrenders just 0.906 points per possession, but in a contest it could race to 100, the scoreboard operator will be working up a lather. Keep in mind, the ‘Zags have hit the over in six of 10 contests this season.
Leg 2: Oregon at Colorado (ML)
Colorado didn’t earn many headlines or accolades over the first few weeks of the season, but Tad Boyle’s bunch will be a legitimate single-seed participant in the NCAA Tournament. After going 1-2 on a rough three-game road trip (Arizona, USC, UCLA) to open Pac-12 play, the ‘Buffs return to Boulder hardened and determined to stay afloat in a highly competitive league. Stout defensively (No. 30 in D efficiency), effective from three (36.6% in Pac-12) and consistent at the free-throw line (85.0%), they can beat opponents in variable ways. Oregon’s Chris Duarte and Eugene Omoyuri can score in bunches, but if CU (6-3-1 ATS) extends to the perimeter, pounds the rock inside via Evan Battey and splashes steady buckets from outside they should pluck the Ducks. Equipped with numerous sharpshooters (e.g. D’Shawn Schwartz 48.0 3PT%) and one of the nation’s premier floor generals in McKinley Wright, they’re about to string together a series of home wins.
Season record: 2-7 (This column might be cursed. #FadeTheNoise)
