Taking Houston +1.5 in the national title game is a bet on toughness, defense, and tempo control — all areas where the Cougars hold an edge. According to FTN’s power ratings, Houston ranks No. 2 nationally, with a 126.1 offensive rating and an elite 88.1 defensive rating. Their slow pace (64.0 possessions per game, slowest among all Final Four teams) allows them to dictate the style of play and take opponents out of rhythm. That was on full display in the Final Four when they erased a double-digit deficit against Duke by locking down defensively and grinding the game to a halt.
