College basketball season is back, which means it’s time to search for betting edges on the hardwood.

Below, you’ll find FTN’s college basketball power rankings for the 2024 season. These will be updated every week after games, adjusting for results, news and injuries. We can use these ratings to create a point spread between any two teams in the country on a neutral court. Just subtract the lower team’s rating from the higher-ranked team’s rating. If you compare that number to the spread of a particular game, you can find situations where FTN identifies a betting edge. We will also keep track of teams that are trending up or down, helping to further identify value compared to the public’s perception on media polls.

Make sure to take advantage of our Black Friday sale (which ends at 11:59 p.m. TONIGHT)! Get up to 25% OFF a subscription using the promo code BKVIP for 25% off VIP or BK20 for 20% off annual on a subscription to our Bets+ or VIP annual packages.

Here is the fourth iteration of the FTN College Basketball Power Rankings for the 2024-2025 season!

Key Takeaways

  • Houston remains the top team in our CBB Power Rankings despite its three losses against a brutal non-conference schedule. The Cougars battled Auburn throughout their matchup and suffered two overtime losses to Alabama and San Diego State. Houston still ranks 14th overall in offense and third overall in defense, per KenPom.
  • Duke and Tennessee are now No. 2 and No. 3 in our FTN CBB Power Rankings, boasting a combined record of 12-2. Duke’s two losses to Kentucky and Kansas were games decided in the final possessions. Gonzaga’s 80-67 true road win at San Diego State looks even better after the Aztecs beat Houston on Saturday.
  • The power rankings have started to back Auburn, as the Tigers rose three spots to No. 5 overall this week. It’s hard to find three better wins over the last week than Iowa State, North Carolina and Memphis. Auburn is No. 1 overall in offense and No. 7 overall in defense, per KenPom.
  • Arizona dropped three spots to No. 10 after losing four times in its past five games. The Wildcats’ 103-88 loss at Wisconsin has exposed their weaknesses on offense.
  • Connecticut endured a brutal week, losing all three games at the Maui Invitational. The Huskies lost to Memphis (OT), Colorado by 1 and Dayton by 18. They are very talented but still dropped to No. 8, two spots lower than last week. Things don’t get easier for the Huskies, who face Baylor, Texas and Gonzaga before opening their Big East season at home against Xavier on December 18.
  • The big riser of the week is Marquette, sitting at No. 13 overall. The Golden Eagles may have lost Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro, but they are a perfect 8-0 with wins over Maryland, Purdue and Georgia.
  • Our biggest faller is BYU, one week after being our biggest riser. The Cougars’ overtime loss to Mississippi State, combined with a 66.9% free-throw accuracy mark, dropped BYU 10 spots to No. 22 overall.
