Check out our entire college basketball season preview!
The college basketball season is less than two weeks away, and here at FTN Fantasy we have you covered for what promises to be another thrilling year of upsets and incredible finishes. We will be previewing each team from all of the major conferences along with some mid-majors as well. We will recap betting trends from last season, list projected starters, preview the season and talk about any key players for that program.
The ACC is home to some of the most storied programs in the history of college basketball. Lately, the Final Four champion has come out of the Big East or the Big 12, but the ACC has a great chance to reclaim the title of the best conference in CBB. There has been an influx of talent via the transfer portal, good old fashioned recruiting and the additions of SMU, Stanford and Cal.
Let’s take a look at the Syracuse Orange.
2024-25 College Basketball Season Preview: Syracuse Orange
Conference: ACC
Head Coach: Adrian Autry (2nd season)
2023-2024 Record: 20-12
ATS: 13-19
O/U: 18-14
Projected Starters: G Jaquan Carlos, G JJ Starling, F Chris Bell, F Donovan Freeman, C Eddie Lampkin
Adrian Autry had big shoes to fill when taking over for the legendary Jim Boeheim, and he was able to guide the Orange to a 20-12 season which didn’t result in a tournament appearance but could be seen as a positive sign nonetheless. The roster had to be retooled after losing key contributors Judah Mintz, Maliq Brown, Quadir Copeland, Benny Williams and Justin Taylor.
No. 6 overall recruit Donovan Freeman has one-and-done potential, while portal additions Eddie Lampkin (10.6 PPG at Colorado), Jyare Davis (17.1 PPG at Delaware), Jaquan Carlos (10.4 PPG at Hofstra), Chance Westry (2.5 PPG at Auburn in 22-23) and Lucas Taylor (14.5 PPG at Georgia State) will make up a large portion of their rotation. Four-star recruit Elijah Moore is an intriguing sniper off the bench that knocked down four triples in their exhibition win over Slippery Rock.
Key Player: Eddie Lampkin
The experienced vet has had success with TCU as well as Colorado and will finish up his collegiate career with the Orange. The plan is to use him as an offensive initiator at the top of the key, which will allow guards like JJ Starling and Jaquan Carlos to move off the ball. Lampkin’s willingness as a passer helped Colorado’s offense, especially in action setups. Of course, he will have to find ways to stay out of foul trouble which is something that has dogged him in more physical matchups, but he has a chance to put up some strong peripheral stats as the current composition of the roster fits his skillset extremely well.
