Check out our entire college basketball season preview!

The college basketball season is less than two weeks away, and here at FTN Fantasy we have you covered for what promises to be another thrilling year of upsets and incredible finishes. We will be previewing each team from all of the major conferences along with some mid-majors as well. We will recap betting trends from last season, list projected starters, preview the season and talk about any key players for that program.

The ACC is home to some of the most storied programs in the history of college basketball. Lately, the Final Four champion has come out of the Big East or the Big 12, but the ACC has a great chance to reclaim the title of the best conference in CBB. There has been an influx of talent via the transfer portal, good old fashioned recruiting and the additions of SMU, Stanford and Cal.

Let’s take a look at the Stanford Cardinal

2024-25 College Basketball Season Preview: Stanford Cardinal

Conference: ACC
Head Coach: Kyle Smith (1st season)
2023-2024 Record: 14-18
ATS: 15-16-1
O/U: 18-13-1
Projected Starters: G Benny Gealer, G Ryan Agarwal, G Derin Saran, F Chisom Okpara, C Maxime Raynaud

The Kyle Smith-era begins now, and he will try to make a team that hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament in 10 years relevant once again. They get their stud big man Maxime Raynaud back along with Benny Gealer and Ryan Agarwal, but there will be a ton of new faces as well.

They have five transfers joining the team in Derin Saran (10.1 PPG at UC Irvine), Chisom Okpara (16.5 PPG at Harvard), Jaylen Blakes (1.8 PPG at Duke), Oziyah Sellers (5.2 PPG at USC) and Cole Kastner (lacrosse player at Virginia). There are also four new freshmen, but none are expected to be big contributors right away.

Key Player: Maxime Raynaud

Raynaud has shown vast improvement each year and had his best season yet in 2023-24. He averaged 15.5 PPG and 9.6 RPG while shooting 56% from the field. He is also an adequate enough outside shooter to keep defenses honest. He had one of the highest defensive rebounding rates in the country as well, so he provides a nice building block for a Stanford team entering their first year in the ACC.
