Share

Check out our entire college basketball season preview!

The college basketball season is less than two weeks away, and here at FTN Fantasy we have you covered for what promises to be another thrilling year of upsets and incredible finishes. We will be previewing each team from all of the major conferences along with some mid-majors as well. We will recap betting trends from last season, list projected starters, preview the season and talk about any key players for that program.

The ACC is home to some of the most storied programs in the history of college basketball. Lately, the Final Four champion has come out of the Big East or the Big 12, but the ACC has a great chance to reclaim the title of the best conference in CBB. There has been an influx of talent via the transfer portal, good old fashioned recruiting and the additions of SMU, Stanford and Cal.

Let’s take a look at the Louisville Cardinals

2024-25 College Basketball Season Preview: Louisville Cardinals

Conference: ACC
Head Coach: Pat Kelsey (1st season)
2023-2024 Record: 8-24
ATS: 13-18-1
O/U: 16-16
Projected Starters G Chucky Hepburn, G Koren Johnson, G J’Vonne Hadley, F Terrence Edwards, F Kasean Pryor

The brutal two-year run of Kenny Payne is over, and the program now has a chance to hit the reset button with a great coach like Pat Kelsey. The entire roster has turned over, and there is nobody left from the last regime, player-wise.

Kelsey and his team have one of the best transfer classes in the entire country. Koren Johnson (11.1 PPG at Washington), Terrence Edwards (17.2 PPG at JMU), Kasean Pryor (13 PPG at USF), Reyne Smith (12.8 PPG at Charleston), Aboubacar Traore (12 PPG at Long Beach State), J’Vonne Hadley (11.6 PPG at Colorado), Noah Waterman (9.5 PPG at BYU), Chucky Hepburn (9.2 PPG at Wisconsin), James Scott (5 PPG at Charleston) and Frank Anselem-Ibe (2.6 PPG at Georgia) make up the new roster.

Key Players: Kasean Pryor and Koren Johnson

There are plenty of players who will need to make an impact this year for Louisville to get back to the tournament, but Pryor and Johnson are arguably the most important. Throughout the offseason, scrimmages and exhibitions, they’ve consistently been the best players on the floor. Koren began to blossom as a scorer during the second half of last season with the Washington Huskies and is a relentless worker. Pryor is full of versatility, capable of knocking down threes while also banging down low. Whether they start or come off the bench, they’re going to be big contributors to this program.
