Check out our entire college basketball season preview!

The college basketball season is less than two weeks away, and here at FTN Fantasy we have you covered for what promises to be another thrilling year of upsets and incredible finishes. We will be previewing each team from all of the major conferences along with some mid-majors as well. We will recap betting trends from last season, list projected starters, preview the season and talk about any key players for that program.

The ACC is home to some of the most storied programs in the history of college basketball. Lately, the Final Four champion has come out of the Big East or the Big 12, but the ACC has a great chance to reclaim the title of the best conference in CBB. There has been an influx of talent via the transfer portal, good old fashioned recruiting and the additions of SMU, Stanford and Cal.

Let’s take a look at the Florida State Seminoles.

2024-25 College Basketball Season Preview: Florida State Seminoles

Conference: ACC
Head Coach: Leonard Hamilton (23rd season)
2023-2024 Record: 17-16
ATS: 16-16-1
O/U: 22-11
Projected Starters: G Daquan Davis, G Bostyn Holt, G Chandler Jackson, F Jamir Watkins, F Taylor Bol Bowen

It’s been four years since Leonard Hamilton has led Florida State to the tournament, and it doesn’t seem like that streak is going to end anytime soon. They’ve been ravaged by injuries, but the level of talent has fallen off hard since the COVID-19 years.

They were able to retain their best player in Jamir Watkins, which will keep them from bottoming out completely, but they’re still going to be one of the weaker teams in the ACC. They have brought in portal adds Jerry Deng (10.1 PPG at Hampton), Bostyn Holt (12.3 PPG at South Dakota) and Justin Thomas (7.3 PPG at UTSA). They will need to get quality minutes from incoming freshmen DaQuan Davis and AJ Swinton as well.

Key Player: Jamir Watkins

He led the team in scoring (15.6 PPG) and rebounding (6 RPG) last year, but both of those numbers are expected to skyrocket as the focal point of the offense. He is going to be a volume scorer but has notably placed a priority on improving his jumper, but results have been mixed thus far in their exhibition games. Testing the NBA Draft waters was a smart move, as it allowed him to gain valuable info from scouts on what to work on. His ability to take over games is incredible, and he will carry the team to a few extra wins by himself no doubt.
