College basketball season is in full swing, which means it’s time to search for betting edges on the hardwood.

Below, you’ll find FTN’s college basketball power rankings for the 2024-2025 season. These will be updated every week after games, adjusting for results, news and injuries. We can use these ratings to create a point spread between any two teams in the country on a neutral court. Just subtract the lower team’s rating from the higher-ranked team’s rating. If you compare that number to the spread of a particular game, you can find situations where FTN identifies a betting edge. We will also keep track of teams that are trending up or down, helping to further identify value compared to the public’s perception on media polls.

Here is the latest iteration of the FTN College Basketball Power Rankings for the 2024-2025 season!

Key Takeaways

  • The Houston Cougars remain in the top spot in the FTN CBB Power Rankings, despite their 82-81 overtime home loss to Texas Tech. The Cougars still rank third overall in KenPom, including second-best in adjusted defensive efficiency. They are 9-1 in the Big 12, tied with Arizona. Since joining the conference prior to last season, the Cougars are an astounding 24-4 against Big 12 opponents.
  • You can make a strong argument that the Duke Blue Devils are the best team in the country. They blowtorched rival North Carolina on Saturday, destroying the Tar Heels 87-70. The Blue Devils are ranked second overall in KenPom, including top 5 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency. They are a perfect 11-0 in the ACC, holding a one-game lead over Clemson in the conference standings.
  • Alabama has figured it out. The Crimson Tide are the high risers in this week’s FTN CBB Power Rankings, up three spots to No. 6 overall.  They have won six straight games and sit just a half-game behind undefeated Auburn in the SEC standings. Head coach Nate Oats will take his squad to Arkansas and Texas this week before a home battle with Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 15.
  • Maryland has grinded its way to No. 15 in our power rankings, up eight spots over the past week. The Terrapins are on a four-game winning streak, including impressive victories at Illinois and Indiana. They are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Big Ten looking up at conference leader Michigan State.
  • The biggest faller of the week? The Kentucky Wildcats. Head coach Mark Pope needs to stop the bleeding after three losses in their last four contests, including an embarrassing 89-79 home loss to John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday. The problem for Kentucky lies on defense, where it is allowing an SEC-worst 57.9% from inside the arc, while forcing the fewest turnovers in conference play.
