2022 Battle 4 Atlantis Teams

The 2022 Battle 4 Atlantis will consist of the following teams:

Butler

Strengths: On defense, Butler forces turnovers, limits offensive rebounds and doesn’t foul. On offense, they are one of the country’s best from inside the three-point arc.

Weaknesses: The Bulldogs’ three victories have all come at home against teams ranked 275th or worse at Kenpom. They lost their one game away from home by six at Penn State.

BYU

Strengths: So far this season, BYU has played fast, defended the paint well and grabbed offensive rebounds at a top-50 rate.

Weaknesses: The Cougars have gotten the ball stolen from them on 17% of their possessions, which ranks bottom-10 in the nation.

Dayton

Strengths: The Flyers force opponents into long, drawn-out offensive possessions and have garnered a 40% effective field goal percentage on defense, one of the nation’s best marks.

Weaknesses: 46% of Dayton’s field goal attempts have come from three-point range, but they’ve knocked down just 29.5% of their three-point attempts so far this season.

Kansas

Strengths: The Jayhawks play fast on offense and have assisted on over 61% of their made field goals. Additionally, they’re battle-tested after their late-game comeback over Duke in the Champions Classic.

Weaknesses: Kansas is getting just 8% of its points from the free throw line this season, as it is seldom getting to the charity stripe and only knocking down 56% of its free throws when it does get there.

NC State

Strengths: NC State pushes the tempo on offense and boasts one of the nation’s most efficient, well-balanced scoring attacks so far this season.

Weaknesses: The Wolfpack have played all their games at home, and they haven’t played anyone at the level of competition they’ll be facing in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Tennessee

Strengths: The Volunteers are great at forcing turnovers, getting to the free throw line and snagging offensive rebounds, but most impressively, they have assisted on a nation-high 76% of their made field goals thanks to their excellent guards.

Weaknesses: Tennessee shoots the three at the highest rate in the country, but they’ve only sunk 32% of their attempts from beyond the arc. They also rank 290th in two-point shooting percentage per Kenpom.

USC

Strengths: As they have for the last few seasons, the Trojans defend the paint better than almost anyone, limiting opponents to just 40% shooting from two-point range and blocking shots at a top-10 rate in the country.

Weaknesses: USC dropped a home game to Florida Gulf Coast to start the year, and they’ve struggled mightily to shoot the ball, hitting just 30% of their three-point tries.

Wisconsin

Strengths: In three games, Wisconsin has allowed opponents to hit just 11% of their three-point attempts and grab only 18% of their missed shots. Both marks rank top-10 nationally.

Weaknesses: The Badgers have struggled from two-point range so far this year, and they have failed to create extra possessions through offensive rebounds or forced turnovers.

2022 Battle 4 Atlantis Best Bets

Tennessee to Win the Battle 4 Atlantis

(+250)

Tennessee already has a blemish on its resume after losing to Colorado by 12 in a game in which it was favored by 15 points, but the Volunteers had a game before the Battle 4 Atlantis to work out the kinks. There are a lot of good teams in this tournament, and winning three games in three days isn’t only about having the most talent or playing perfect basketball. In a three-day event, shots won’t always fall, so teams will need to rely on finding other ways to win besides raining threes. We know the Volunteers will always play tough defense, force turnovers and get to the free throw line. Tennessee has the makeup to survive games in which it doesn’t shoot well, so as long as it avoids the abysmal 25% shooting performance it put on versus Colorado, it can win the Battle 4 Atlantis.
