The WNBA is into the semifinals, and the DFS action rolls on. In this article, I’ll provide a few of my favorite building blocks on the day’s slate, my MME player pool and some of my preferred picks for the prop market. Keep in mind that staying up to date with player availability and starting lineups is just as important here as it is in NBA DFS, so make sure to check in with the FTN WNBA Discord channel for any news updates that our team finds.
We’ve got a two-game slate in front of us Tuesday night, so let’s dive in.
I’m going to do a game-by-game breakdown on this slate given how tight rotations have become at this point of the postseason. The Sun upset the Liberty in Game 1 of this series and New York now finds their backs against the wall. Heading to Connecticut down 0-2 would, obviously, be less than ideal. I expect the Liberty to bounce back Tuesday, which certainly isn’t a hot take given New York are 9.5-point home favorites as of this writing. Breanna Stewart is my favorite spend up option on the slate, considering price and the state of the series. She’s $900 cheaper than A’ja Wilson and played quite poorly in Game 1. It’s a continuation of a tough start to the postseason for the former league and finals MVP. Stewie is sporting 29/6/94 shooting splits through the Liberty’s first four playoff games, a baffling slump from the field that surely will be corrected sooner rather than later. We’ve also got sub-$10k price tags on Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones. I don’t have much of a lean on which I prefer, but they’re both great options at their price points. Courtney Vandersloot ($8.4k) and Betnijah Laney ($7.9k) are both in play, I greatly prefer Vandersloot if choosing between the two. The only two bench options I view as viable from New York are Kayla Thornton ($4.7k) and Marine Johannes ($4.3k), and I prefer Thornton if going that cheap.
The Sun are playing with a bit of house money. Of course, I don’t expect them to roll over and give New York Game 2, but they got what they came for with a road win Sunday. In a playoff scenario, Alyssa Thomas is always going to be a great play at $11.3k with the way this roster is constructed. She hasn’t come out of a game in three straight outings. Thomas didn’t shoot particularly well in Game 1 but was still a bucket and three rebounds away from a triple double. I side with Stewart as my favorite spend up in one lineup, but I have no issue if you side with Thomas, who was coming off two 50-plus-DK-point games headed into this series. Dewanna Bonner is a secondary option for me given her price, I’d rather spend up on the forwards on this slate and get to some cheaper guard options I feel have similar ceilings. There are two priority plays in the midrange here in the form of Rebecca Allen ($7.3k) and Tiffany Hayes ($6.4k). Allen has received a huge minutes increase in the first four playoff games, playing at least 33 minutes in each after averaging just 21.5 minutes per game across her 40 regular season appearances. Hayes is a bit more volatile still, but the price tag is too cheap for the upside, especially on a value-starved playoff slate. She lost four minutes of playing time in Game 1 to foul trouble and a few more minutes in the second half after picking up her fifth foul with 4:51 to play in the third. It looked to me like she was on pace to play around 30 minutes. Hayes averaged 27.1 minutes per game during the regular season and if she plays at least that tonight she’s one of, if not the best, value play on the slate among all the sub-$7k options. Natisha Hiedeman got 32 minutes in Game 1 and if she’s going to get that type of workload, she’s right behind Hayes in terms of best value guard options. I’m still wary of her minutes volatility. DiJonai Carrington ($5.3k), Tyasha Harris ($5.5k) and Olivia Nelson-Ododa ($4.9k) are secondary value choices. Nelson-Ododa played the final 14 minutes of Game 1, and she comes in as my favorite of that trio if you’re going into that range.
The Aces did take care of business at home Sunday behind another monster performance by A’ja Wilson. She crushed the Mercury to close the season and secure the top overall seed and has carried that over to the playoffs. Wilson has exceeded 50 DK points in four of her last five games including 56 in Game 1. She’s rightfully the top priced player on this slate at $12k. As I said earlier, I do prefer Breanna Stewart up top, prices considered. The Aces are essentially running a six-player rotation in the postseason and the other five options are all in play. On paper, Chelsea Gray ($9.8k) is going to project the best of the group. Both Jackie Young ($9.1k) and Kelsey Plum ($8.8k) are strong options for their prices as well. Young had the big outing in Game 1 and I think the field will chase that and make her the highest owned of that guard trio. Alysha Clark ($6.8k) and Kiah Stokes ($6.0k) round out the rotation and I prefer Stokes for the discount in this matchup. She’s needed for big minutes against the oversized Dallas frontcourt. If you want to take a shot on Kierstan Bell ($3.8k) in MME and hope she knocks down a couple shots in her short (and non-guaranteed) time on the court, I don’t have an issue with that. I am unlikely to get there in my build of five lineups.
Dallas is probably the wild card of the four teams on Tuesday’s slate in terms of expected rotation. Latricia Trammell hasn’t been decisive with her point guard minutes as we progressed into the postseason. Odyssey Sims ($5k) has played a much larger role than anticipated, playing between 17 and 19 minutes in each of the last three games, without foul trouble to Crystal Dangerfield ($5.8k). Both are viable value filler at guard, and I lean sightly toward Sims for the savings. Arike Ogunbowale ($9.5k) is at her cheapest price of the season. She’s struggled with the Las Vegas matchup all season (as many guards do) but the price is certainly intriguing. If you’re running multiple lineups, I get it if you have some Ogunbowale ownership. The frontcourt trio of Satou Sabally ($10.2k), Teaira McCowan ($9.4k) and Natasha Howard ($9k) are all in play and I prefer them Sabally, Howard, McCowan, prices considered. It’s been tough to prioritize them in my early builds. Kalani Brown ($5.6k) is in play as low-rostered value filler in MME builds.
