College football’s bowl season has been a wild experience thus far with cancellations and opt-outs, but it has still been a profitable run. Our most valuable edge is staying on top of the news and reacting appropriately. We are now entering the part of bowl season where the games are mattering more, and the teams are just better overall. We have a solid three-game slate on tap Thursday featuring a few high-powered offenses and one of our favorite running backs. Be sure to check in with the CFB DFS Discord so you don’t miss any pertinent news.

In this breakdown, I will list my favorite plays at each position and give you a three-man core for both DraftKings and FanDuel. I will also list my top PrizePicks plays at the end of this writeup. Let’s dive in and get this bowl season money.

Quarterbacks

Hendon Hooker, Tennessee

($8.1k DK/$10.8k FD)

Hooker has been one of the premiere dual-threat quarterbacks at the collegiate level and a top DFS option because of it. He has thrown for over 2,500 yards and 26 TDs to only 3 INTs which shows his improvement as a passer this season. He has also rushed for 561 yards and 5 ground scores. I’m expecting this game to shootout and Hooker should be able to put together a vintage slate-breaking performance that we have come to expect from him.

Aidan O’Connell, Purdue

($7.8k DK/$10.2k FD)

O’Connell has been a fantasy scoring machine the last month and a half of the season, which has made him a desirable DFS target. We were ahead of the curve on him and have been using him for weeks before the rest of the industry jumped on, which led to some very profitable slates for us. He has scored at least 27 fantasy points in four straight games while throwing for a total of 14 TDs in that same span. He has 31-plus pass attempts in eight straight contests. There have been unsubstantiated rumors that he may have COVID-19 but larger accounts on Twitter have shot this down. Either way, we will have to obviously double check prior to lock to confirm but as long as he is playing, I’m going to have heavy exposure.

Additional GPP/MME Targets

Nick Patti, Pittsburgh — Kenny Pickett has opted out to focus on NFL Draft preparations, so backup Nick Patti will step into the starting role. The Spartans secondary has been horrible all year long and has given up over 330 yards per game through the air this season. We have continuously targeted against them with QB1s and it makes a lot of sense to roll Patti in this spot. He is a bit of an unknown but at this point I’d be willing to roster a milk man against this secondary.

Payton Thorne, Michigan State — Thorne has played well the last month of the season and has scored 26+ fantasy points in three of his last four games. With star RB Kenneth Walker opting out, the Spartans may need to rely more on Thorne’s arm in this game. He will likely have all of his receivers at his disposal which gives him a bump in viability. He has thrown for over 2800 yards and 24 TDs to 9 INTs while also rushing for 4 scores.

Running Backs

Braelon Allen, Wisconsin

($8.5k DK/$9.8k FD)

Allen ripped through the Big 10 this year and the fact that he is still under 18 years old means he has barely scratched the surface of what he is capable of. He has rushed for over 1,100 yards and 12 TDs in 10 games but didn’t start getting bulk carries until Week 6. He officially broke onto the scene in Week 11 when he rushed for 173 yards and 3 TDs against Northwestern. He followed that up with another 3 TD performance against Nebraska in Week 12 in which he also rushed for 228 yards. He should have no trouble dicing up a clearly overmatched Sun Devils team.

Zander Horvath, Purdue

($5.2k DK/$6.2k FD)

Horvath is finally healthy and getting touches on the ground and in the passing game. He is a strong play on both sites, especially since the RB pool on this slate is very weak. He should be in line for about 20 touches, which includes targets through the passing game.

Additional GPP/MME Targets

Jabari Small, Tennessee — Tiyon Evans has transferred to Louisville, which leaves Small as the unquestioned RB1 in the Vols offense. There will always be the risk Hendon Hooker steals the rushing touchdowns in the red zone, but with this game being a likely shootout, there will be plenty of opportunity for Small to produce. He rushed for 612 yards and 8 TDs this year in a split backfield with Evans. Jaylen Wright has double-digit carries in back-to-back games so expect him to be used throughout the game as well.

Elijah Collins, Michigan State — Collins will likely get first crack at toting the rock with Kenneth Walker opting out to prepare for the draft. Collins has produced as the starter in the past, specifically in 2019 when he rushed for 988 yards and 5 TDs. Jordon Simmons will also get work and had 13 carries in the Spartans last two games of the regular season. Tight end Connor Heyward is listed as an RB on DraftKings for some reason, which diminishes his value, but he is an active target that has 8 receptions for 80 yards in his last two games.

Wide Receivers

Purdue WRs

Top wideouts David Bell (opted out) and Milton Wright (didn’t travel) are out for the Music City Bowl game, so the remaining options at the position are excellent value plays. Jackson Anthrop is a really intriguing play in all formats that is used in both the passing game and the rushing game. He is third on the team with 61 targets and has a stat line of 48-509-5. Here are some of the other options to strongly consider:

Tennessee WRs

Staying with the same game, we can look at Vols WRs for our lineups as well. Hooker’s favorite target has been Cedric Tillman and he can be considered a premium play if you can find the room for his salary. He leads the team in targets with 76 and has a stat line of 57-931-9. Velus Jones is significantly cheaper but just as good of a play and has major touchdown equity due to the fact that he returns kicks as well. He has caught 52 of his 67 targets for 722 yards and 6 TDs. JaVonta Payton is a rock-solid GPP value that won’t get much PPR work but seems to bust out for a long TD every other game. He has caught 16 of his 31 targets for 378 yards and 6 scores. His TD equity is massive when you consider 6 of his 16 catches have gone for scores.

Additional GPP/MME Targets

Jordan Addison, Pittsburgh — It’s going to be hard to fit Addison and fully stack the Vols/Boilermakers game, but the idea of fading him is quite scary. Taysir Mack has opted out so that frees up even more targets for Addison but it’s worth noting that he will be working with a backup QB since Pickett has also opted out. He has been targeted a whopping 134 times this season and there isn’t a player on the Spartans defense capable of containing him.

Michigan State WRs — The relevant Spartans wideouts to look at are Jayden Reed (91 targets) and Jalen Nailor (61 targets). I think they’ll likely go overlooked because of their price points which makes them ideal GPP plays, especially if you pair them up with Thorne in a triple stack.

Non-Jordan Addison Pittsburgh WRs/TEs — Tight ends such as Lucas Krull or Gavin Bartholomew offer cheap exposure to the Pittsburgh offense and have TD equity anytime the team is in the red zone. You can also look at Jared Wayne, a talented player that has been the main benefactor anytime Taysir Mack has been out.
