College football’s bowl season is well underway, and we have ourselves a two-game DFS slate Friday that features some strong options for fantasy purposes. I will highlight my top two players at each position to help you create a base for your lineup and then we can talk further in the CFB DFS Discord regarding any additional options.
Team | Odds | Team | Odds | Total |
Louisiana | +215 | Houston | -255 (-7) | 57.5 |
Wake Forest | -135 (-2.5) | Missouri | +115 | 58 |
We have one last hurrah with Clayton Tune for the season, and I’m looking forward to seeing his swan song performance in the Independence Bowl. After a few early-season hiccups, Tune has had a strong statistical season, throwing for almost 4,000 yards and a solid 37 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He showed off a dangerous ability to use his legs this season and was able to rack up nearly 500 yards to go along with 5 rushing scores. The Louisiana defense was fairly strong this season, but I still like Tune’s chances to be one of the highest-scoring players on this small slate and he should be one of the first players you plug into your main build.
I thought about utilizing Brady Cook here as my QB2 because he offers a steep discount and has a fantasy-friendly matchup against Wake Forest. However, I just couldn’t forgive myself if I faded Hartman in his last game of the season, only to watch him blitz the slate one more time for 30-plus fantasy points. With that said, I’ll be opening up the checkbook at the QB position here. Hartman’s been a steady source of fantasy points all year long and basically has a floor of 300 passing yards/3 TDs. He has upside for more, but I’d be perfectly fine with his usual stat line as $8.4k really isn’t even that expensive for a marquee passer. Despite an early season setback, he was able to throw for 3,400 yards and 35 TDs this season and has one of the better receiver rooms in the ACC.
The RB position is filled with rock-solid options that happen to be reasonably affordable. Since I’m looking to fade the popular Brady Cook in my main build, I’m going to be rolling with his RB instead. Schrader really came into his own in the last month of the season and actually scored double-digit fantasy points in five of his last six games. He has been effective in the passing game as well as on the ground and he is exactly the type of player that is prone to explode in these lower tier bowl games. The Demon Deacons rush defense looks good on paper but when you dig in deeper, you’ll see they’ve been gashed by several RBs recently such as Tiyon Evans and Sean Tucker. Those two are obviously in a tier or two above Schrader but I think his playstyle is going to give Wake fits all day. I’m locking him in and not looking back.
The Ragin’ Cajuns have their typical running back committee and Houston has a relatively deep RB room as well. This means I’m prioritizing both lead backs from the Wake Forest-Missouri game instead. Quinton Cooley and Christian Turner get work, but Ellison has operated as the lead guy for a while now. He has double-digit carries in his last four games and I’m expecting that to continue here.
The No. 1 pairing option with Clayton Tune. The Cougars receiving room has actually been quite strong with the likes of Matthew Golden, Sam Brown and tight end Christian Trahan but it’s quite clearly the “Tank” show as he leads the team in targets with 141. He has an astonishing 72.3% catch rate and has been able to produce a stat line of 102-1355-15. He is a surefire future NFL player and will be able to show off his immense talent on national television.
I’m listing two value options here, and even though they’re on separate teams, I think it’s warranted to list them both together. For Wake, Jahmal Banks and Donavon Greene have been dealing with ailments which has allowed him to pop recently as a viable fantasy option. He has 18 targets in his last three games and should continue to get work even if Wake Forest has their full stable of WRs available. Burden came into the season with a high pedigree and sort of shocked the college football world after he selected Missouri instead of one of the higher tier programs. He didn’t have the season that he was hoping for, but it certainly wasn’t a total dud. He was able to reel in 40 of his 64 targets for 346 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Tigers have already had several players hit the portal such as Dom Lovett and Tauskie Dove so Burden will be stepping into a situation next year where he is the alpha if he decides to remain with Missouri. This bowl game will be an excellent chance for him to claim that role and give the fan base a preview of what to expect for next season.
