It’s college football’s championship week, and we’ve got several good matchups to take a look at. Let’s see if we can find some value before bowl season descends upon us and wash away last week’s terrible performance for the article.
All odds are per DraftKings Sportsbook.
Noon ET Saturday
Texas -15
I want to get involved in both sides of this matchup. The Longhorns defense should absolutely smother the Cowboys offense that will look to get Ollie Gordon going but won’t be able to. Texas has one of the best rush defenses in the country, and somehow only Wyoming had a lot of success on the ground against them. Without Gordon, that means more Alan Bowman, and I don’t feel very comfortable in him beating the Longhorns. On the other side, you’ve got a Texas offense that needs style points in order to get them into the playoffs. Even with a stellar performance, they’ll need a lot of help to get in. This is an OSU defense that has allowed 45 to UCF, 34 to West Virginia, BYU and Iowa State. Quinn Ewers should have a party in this one.
Texas over 4.5 touchdowns (-110)
Oklahoma State under 20.5 points (-140)
Noon ET Saturday
Toledo -7.5
This feels like a rematch of last year’s game with Ohio for Toledo, which they won 17-7. Miami has one of the best G5 defenses in the country, and they’ve held every team but two under 27 points. In a meeting back on Oct. 21, the Redhawks lost 21-17 to the Rockets. Toledo had only 318 yards of offense in that one to Miami-Ohio’s 299. The difference was Miami’s two turnovers to none for the road team. Aveon Smith took over for Brett Gabbert under center and that downgrades Miami’s offense just a bit. Toledo’s defense is pretty good too and they’ve held five teams to 17 points or under. You could play the game under in this contest, but I’ll take a shot with both team total unders.
Toledo under 27.5 (-135)
Miami-Ohio under 17.5 points (-130)
Noon ET Saturday
Albany -8
I’m going to throw a bonus FCS selection into the mix here. Richmond is smoking hot as a team, having won seven in a row. This includes road wins at Rhode Island, NC A&T and William and Mary. The Spiders offense has a lot of balance between the run and the pass, and their defense is very solid especially up front. The team has allowed just 20 TDs in 39 red zone opportunities, and field goals aren’t going to win this game. Albany has never beaten Richmond in this series and while they are 5-0 at home, their only solid win there came over Villanova. For a reference point, the Great Danes have played two FBS opponents losing 21-17 to Marshall and 31-20 to Hawaii. I just think this is way too many points for a team that has a playoff pedigree and won’t be intimidated by their opponent.
Richmond +8
