Since this is an article I usually submit for editing the night before, I’ll almost always cover the earlier MLB DFS slate in the article and defer the later or main slate to Discord, because there will be ample time to cover it. In this particular case, however, with only a four-game early slate and an eight-game main, the choice is a little clearer that I should cover the main slate, and that’s what I’ll do.
The main slate has some very expensive options at SP, but not necessarily any great ones. Sonny Gray against the Pirates is an attractive matchup on its surface, but coming off consecutive inefficient starts against the Phillies and lowly Rockies as the highest-priced option on the tough slate, he loses his luster. We have the opposite problem for Nick Pivetta, who is coming off two dominant outings but gets a less-than-ideal matchup against the mashing Phillies.
When pricing shakes out like this I will often opt for value in the mid-range or low-end, and while those options aren’t great either, I do prefer the flexibility in what bats can be used afforded by the savings on these arms.
