Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Bradley Blalock turned in a strong performance on Saturday and picked up his first career win in the Rockies' 9-2 win over the New York Yankees. Blalock, acquired by the Rockies from the Milwaukee Brewers, now has a 3.06 ERA on the season after giving up two ER in 5.1 innings and striking out five. Though he showed control issues by allowing four walks, he was able to avoid danger and tamed a strong New York Yankees lineup. With the Rockies looking to find out what they have in their younger players, Blalock is taking advantage of his opportunity and has pitched into the sixth inning in each of his three starts with the Rockies. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for starting pitching help may want to look at this under-the-radar Rockies starter. He'll look to continue developing during his next scheduled start on Thursday when the Rockies host the Miami Marlins.
Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Bradley Blalock made his debut with the club on Monday and his first MLB start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Blalock, the club's No. 20 prospect per MLB Pipeline, went 5 2/3 innings and allowed six hits, three runs, no walks and struck out four to earn a no-decision. Blalock was brought over from the Milwaukee Brewers when he was acquired for Nick Mears at the trade deadline, and apart from one inning for the Brewers, he has spent his season at Double-A Biloxi and Double-Hartford. Between both levels, he has made 18 starts with a 4.36 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 86 2/3 innings. Blalock pitched well enough to earn another start, and if that happens, it would come against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. He should be avoided in that matchup and can remain on the waiver wire for now.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Bradley Blalock has been recalled from Double-A to make his first career start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Blalock was acquired by the team a few weeks ago as part of a deal for right-hander Nick Mears. Blalock had a 4.36 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 18 starts in Double-A this season. The Rockies are desperate for starting pitching with multiple starters going down with injuries. That being said, Blalock might not be ready for the big leagues yet, but the Rockies are going to give him a chance anyway.
