J.T. Realmuto Could Return Before All-Star Break

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that catcher J.T. Realmuto (knee) is doing drills at about 70-75 percent intensity. Although the All-Star break looms after next week's homestand, the Phillies won't hold Realmuto back from coming off the injured list if he's ready to go before the Midsummer Classic. Realmuto has clearly made good progress after undergoing surgery on the meniscus in his right knee three weeks ago. The Phillies aren't going to push the 33-year-old All-Star backup, but at worst, he should be ready to go early in the second half of the season if he doesn't return before the All-Star break. Garrett Stubbs and Rafael Marchan will split the catching duties in the meantime. When healthy, Realmuto is a high-end, must-start fantasy catcher with a .261/.309/.411 slash line, seven homers, 20 RBI and 28 runs scored in 207 at-bats in 2024.

J.T. Realmuto Hits On The Field

Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto (knee) did receiving drills and was set to hit on the field on Tuesday for the first time since undergoing a right-knee meniscectomy on June 12. Realmuto had hit in the indoor cages the last few days before moving to the field before Tuesday's contest. It remains to be seen when Realmuto will return from the 10-day injured list, but barring setbacks with his knee, it should come right around the All-Star break. The Phillies are 10-9 without Realmuto, so they'd love to get their All-Star backstop back sooner than later. When healthy, he remains a must-start in all fantasy lineups in one of the most potent lineups in baseball. Until he returns, Garrett Stubbs will operate as the team's primary catcher, with Rafael Marchan backing him up.

J.T. Realmuto Resumes Baseball Activities

Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto (knee) has been playing catch on the field. Realmuto took dry swings and hit off a tee prior to Friday's game against the division-rival Miami Marlins, and manager Rob Thomson said that the catcher is "progressing well." Working his way back from right knee surgery, Realmuto has resumed baseball activities and will be a candidate to get back behind the dish for the Phillies shortly after the mid-July All-Star break. The 33-year-old star backstop was hitting a healthy .261 (54-for-207) with seven home runs, 20 RBI, and 28 runs scored through 51 outings as Philly's top catcher before going under the knife, but his one stolen base was a major disappointment. Fantasy managers should still be stashing Realmuto in all leagues. Garrett Stubbs and Rafael Marchan are filling in behind the plate, but neither are worth looking at outside of deep two-catcher formats.
