Ross Stripling Set For First Rehab Start

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Ross Stripling (elbow) is set to make his first rehab start with Single-A Stockton on Tuesday, July 9. He is expected to have a pitch count set around 35. The 34-year-old was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 25 with a right elbow strain. Prior to the injury, the right-hander struggled with a hefty 5.82 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. However, he did hold a 4.8% walk rate, which is one of the best marks in baseball. If his rehab start goes well, he will be moved up to Triple-A Las Vegas where he will have a much larger workload. Stripling should slot back into the Oakland rotation when he is activated and could be worth a look in favorable matchups in deeper AL-only formats.

Ross Stripling To Face Live Hitters On Wednesday

Oakland Athletics right-hander Ross Stripling (elbow), who landed on the injured list on May 25 with a right-elbow flexor strain, threw a bullpen session at Chase Field on Saturday that simulated two innings and included all of his pitches. Stripling's next step will be facing hitters in a live batting practice session on Wednesday, July 3. The 34-year-old veteran will eventually need to make at least a couple minor-league rehab starts before being activated from the injured list, so it's likely that we won't see him again in Oakland's starting rotation until after the All-Star break in mid-July. It's hard to get behind Stripling in even deep-mixed fantasy leagues after he went 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with a 35:12 K:BB in 55 2/3 innings over his first 11 starts this year in his first year with the A's. He's currently sporting a career-worst 13.9% strikeout rate.

Ross Stripling To Throw His First Bullpen Next Week

Oakland Athletics right-hander Ross Stripling (elbow) will graduate from throwing on flat ground with his first bullpen session on Tuesday, June 25. Stripling will likely throw at least a few bullpen sessions before the team comes up with a plan for a minor-league rehab assignment. The 34-year-old veteran has built up his arm enough at this point that he's been cleared to throw off a mound. He's not going to be back in Oakland's rotation until at least July, and it remains to be seen if it will come before or after the All-Star break in mid-July. The A's probably aren't going to rush him back, though, considering he went 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with just 35 strikeouts in 55 2/3 frames over his first 11 starts with the team in 2024. An aging pitcher with a career-low 13.9% strikeout rate on one of the worst teams in baseball should only be rostered in AL-only leagues when he's healthy.
