San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez earned his 22nd save of the season in Thursday's victory versus the Texas Rangers. Suarez allowed a walk in his inning of work, but also recorded a strikeout to lead the Padres to their 48th victory. Suarez has quietly been having a very strong season in the closers role for the Padres and owns a miniscule 1.02 ERA in 35 1/3 innings with 33 strikeouts. Suarez hasn't missed a beat since replacing Josh Hader, who left the Padres for the Houston Astros in free agency. The right-hander remains one of the best closers in the game and should be rostered in all formats moving forward.
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez picked up his 13th save of the season in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves, throwing a clean ninth inning on just seven pitches. The Padres came from behind to win the opener of Monday's twin bill, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to provide Suarez with the chance to convert his first save since May 8. The 33-year-old right-hander has excelled as San Diego's go-to ninth-inning man this season, going a perfect 13-for-13 on save opportunities while surrendering a lone run with an 18:4 K:BB across 20 1/3 innings. As long as he continues throwing this well, Suarez should remain the Friars' clear-cut stopper going forward.
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez continued his excellent season, earning his 11th save in Monday's 6-3 win over the Cubs. Suarez entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning up by three with one out and the bases loaded. He got a strikeout and a pop-out to escape the jam and stayed on to pitch the ninth, delivering a 1-2-3 inning with two more strikeouts. The 33-year-old has been one of fantasy's best closers this season, converting all of his save opportunities with a 0.59 ERA in 15 1/3 innings of work.
