San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt said that right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow, groin) had some imaging that came out clean and will likely get some more imaging done for peace of mind. Darvish will stay behind during the team's current road trip. The Padres were initially expecting the 37-year-old veteran to come off the 15-day injured list to start on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, but he was scratched with inflammation in his right elbow. The good news is he's recovered from his groin injury, and his elbow injury doesn't appear very serious. Still, there's no word on when Darvish might be able to return to San Diego's starting rotation. If he needs a minor-league rehab start before returning, there's a chance Darvish won't make it back to the big-league club before the All-Star break in mid-July.

San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow, groin) has "a little" elbow inflammation and will not come off the injured list to make the start on Tuesday against the visiting Washington Nationals, according to manager Mike Shildt. Instead, rookie right-hander Adam Mazur will get the nod. Darvish has been out almost a month with a groin injury and will now miss a little more time with a balky right elbow. The 37-year-old Japanese hurler missed the final month of the 2023 campaign due to a bone spur in his elbow, so the Friars aren't going to take any chances with Darvish. It's unclear how much more time he'll be forced to miss, but stay tuned for more updates. The 23-year-old Mazur has gone 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 11 K's in 17 1/3 innings in his first four major-league starts, so he'll be a risky streaming choice against the Nats on Tuesday.

Veteran right-hander Yu Darvish (groin) will return to the mound this coming Tuesday for the San Diego Padres against the Washington Nationals. Darvish has four wins, a 3.20 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 11 games started this season. He is set to come off the injured list, where had been placed with left groin soreness on May 29th. In his last rehab outing, Darvish threw only 49 pitches at High-A Fort Wayne, so he figures to be on a pitch count on Tuesday. The Padres currently sit at 40-40 eight games back of the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, and will look for their ace to provide quality starts.
