The Kansas City Royals optioned outfielders Drew Waters and Joey Wiemer and infielder Nick Loftin to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, the team announced. The team also announced that infielders Harold Castro and Tyler Tolbert, right-hander Taylor Clarke and catcher Brian O'Keefe have been assigned to minor-league camp. With Waters and Wiemer going down, it means that Dairon Blanco and Mark Canha will be the team's backup outfielders to start the 2025 regular season. Waters really struggled this spring, going 6-for-32 (.188) with three doubles, two triples, four RBI, two steals and 18 strikeouts in 19 Cactus League games. Wiemer is being sent down despite a hot spring showing that saw him post an .838 OPS with two home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and three stolen bases in 21 contests.

According to Robert Murray of FanSided, the Kansas City Royals are acquiring Joey Wiemer from the Cincinnati Reds. Wiemer is an additional asset in the trade that sent Jonathan India to Kansas City and Brady Singer to Cincinnati. Wiemer was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft but struggled in his brief taste of the majors. Across two seasons in the big leagues, the outfielder posted an underwhelming .201/.279/.349 line. Wiemer was then acquired by the Reds last summer but made only two appearances with them. Across the minor leagues, the 25-year-old posted a solid .259/.359/.454 line with 52 home runs across 324 games. Fantasy managers should monitor Wiemer's progression during Spring Training in deeper formats as he could have a chance to make the Opening Day Roster.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Joey Wiemer (knee) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The young outfielder was forced to miss 16 days due to left knee soreness. He wasn't playing too well before the injury but figures to at least play in a platoon role going forward. Wiemer will cover center field and bat ninth versus lefty Ryan Weathers on Monday.
