Tanner Banks To Start On Tuesday

The Philadelphia Phillies announced that left-hander Tanner Banks will make the start for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park instead of right-hander Taijuan Walker after the club locked up the National League East title on Monday night for the first time since 2011. Walker and Kolby Allard are expected to pitch at some point on Tuesday after Banks. The Phillies will most likely be resting a lot of their regulars on Tuesday against the Cubbies after winning the division title and celebrating late into the evening. The 32-year-old Banks will most likely work just an inning or two on Tuesday as the opener before giving way to either Walker or Allard. He's posted a 3.78 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 69 innings in 2024, with both of his saves coming with the White Sox. Banks has allowed seven earned runs with 20 K's and nine walks in 21 relief innings for the Phillies.

Phillies Acquire Tanner Banks From White Sox

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired left-hander Tanner Banks from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the deal. It's unclear what the Phillies sent to Chicago in return. Banks, a 32-year-old southpaw reliever, has a 2-2 record this year with a 4.13 ERA (3.28 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP, two saves, a career-high 55 strikeouts and 15 walks in 48 innings over 41 appearances (one start) in his third year in the big leagues. He has plenty of experience pitching in high-leverage situations this year with Chicago's bullpen being so depleted, but he'll likely take up more of a middle-relief role in his new digs with the first-place Phillies. In his three seasons with the White Sox, Banks has recorded a 3.89 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 22.9% strikeout rate with three saves in 162 innings pitched. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Tanner Banks Locks Down Second Save

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Tanner Banks earned his second save of the season in an extra-innings contest versus the Seattle Mariners. Banks came on in the bottom of the 10th inning to lock down the victory and sent Tyler Locklear and Josh Rojas to the bench with strikeouts before getting Luke Raley to pop-out to end the contest. Banks has appeared to be second in command behind Michael Kopech for the closer job, but regardless, Banks doesn't hold much value without that title and even so, the White Sox save chances are few and far between. He can safely remain on the waiver wire moving forward.
