Chicago White Sox outfielders Gavin Sheets and Andrew Benintendi, infielder Nicky Lopez and catcher Korey Lee are all sitting for Thursday's series finale at Guaranteed Rate Field versus the Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Tyler Anderson. Miguel Vargas is the designated hitter and is batting leadoff, Zach DeLoach is in left field and is hitting sixth, Lenyn Sosa is at the keystone and batting cleanup, and Chuckie Robinson is doing the catching and hitting out of the seven-hole against Anderson. Sheets will start on the bench for the second day in a row with another lefty on the hill. He's hit just .207 (17-for-82) with two of his 10 homers this year against lefties. Benintendi has similarly struggled against southpaws, going 24-for-113 (.212) with four of his 19 homers against them on the year. Vargas is hitting leadoff but has batted just .160 on the year with five homers in 194 at-bats.

The win was their second straight and staved off history for the time being, preventing the Sox from becoming the team with the most losses in a single season in baseball history. They have another winnable matchup on Thursday with the Angels, but will face a hot Tigers team for the final three games of the season. Benintendi's futility at the plate before the All-Star break was just one reason the Sox underperformed this season, with the former first-rounder slashing .201/.258/.311 through July 14, but turned it around after the break, slashing a respectable .263/.330/.493 over the last 58 games.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Red Sox. The 30-year-old also walked once and scored twice in the contest. Most of the season has been one to forget for Benintendi and the White Sox, however, he did have a solid month of August in which he hit .278 (with .224 being his second-best monthly average this year) and seven home runs (no more than three in any other month), so perhaps he can parlay that into some September success. In total, the former seventh-overall draft pick has a .223-16-52-44-3 line on the season with a .293 wOBA and 88 wRC+.
