Everson Pereira Optioned To Triple-A On Tuesday

The New York Yankees optioned outfield prospect Everson Pereira to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday despite having a strong showing this spring. Through eight Grapefruit League games, the Yankees' 14th-overall prospect was 6-for-17 (.353) with a pair of home runs, but there is no spot for him in the outfield at the moment, although he had been working as New York's designated hitter as he works his way back from UCL surgery that he underwent last year. As a result, the 23-year-old will fully recover and get regular at-bats with the Triple-A affiliate. There is a high probability we'll see him in the majors this season, but he struggled in his 2023 debut, slashing just .151/.233/.194 with no home runs in 103 plate appearances. After hitting 20 home runs in 2021 as a 20-year-old in only 49 games and another 18 in just 81 games in 2023, the right-handed hitter clearly has some pop, but the 23-year-old still strikes out too much, logging a 32.4 percent K% last season at Triple-A and 33.3 percent this spring. Power-needy managers might give him a shot when he gets the call again, though, and next time, hopefully he'll stick.

Everson Pereira Limited To DH Duties

MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports that New York Yankees outfielder Everson Pereira (elbow) will be limited to designated-hitter duties until mid-March as he continues his rehab from an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow last June. However, manager Aaron Boone said he could see Pereira "very much in the mix" for a roster spot out of spring training. The Yankees are slow-playing the 23-year-old at spring training, but it doesn't mean that he won't be on the Opening Day roster if he performs well in Grapefruit League action. The Venezuelan outfielder didn't play in the majors at all last year and went 14-for-93 (.151) with no homers, 10 RBI, four steals and 40 strikeouts in 103 plate appearances in 27 games in his MLB debut late in 2023. Before getting injured in 2024, Pereira's strikeout rate in the minors was headed in the wrong direction. For now, he's just one to monitor in most fantasy leagues.

Everson Pereira Healthy Heading Into Spring Training

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on WFAN 660 on Tuesday that young outfielder Everson Pereira (elbow) is healthy this offseason and could factor into the club's outfield mix in 2025. Pereira will be competing for a Opening Day roster spot this spring despite undergoing an internal-brace surgery on his right elbow last June. If the 23-year-old impresses in spring training and opens the 2025 regular season with the Yankees, he'd likely operate in a reserve role off the bench. The Venezuelan outfielder made his big-league debut in the Bronx in 2024 but only played in 27 games, going 14-for-93 (.151) with no home runs, 10 RBI, four steals, six runs scored and 40 strikeouts in 103 plate appearances. With plenty to work on still, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Pereira open the year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for more minor-league seasoning.
