Oswaldo Cabrera Starting At First Base In Game 3

New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera will get the start at first base and will hit eighth for the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Seth Lugo. Cabrera has only faced Lugo three times in his career and has a single and a strikeout. The 25-year-old made the start in the Game 1 win over the Royals on Saturday and went 1-for-4 with a double and three strikeouts before retreating to the bench for the Game 2 loss on Monday. Cabrera is a switch-hitter but has fared much better from the left side against right-handers in 2024, batting .268 (59-for-220) with all eight of his home runs from that side. He hit just .190 (15-for-79) with no home runs and 20 strikeouts in 84 plate appearances from the right side. Cabrera is a low-upside DSF sleeper on Wednesday near the bottom of the lineup.

Oswaldo Cabrera Starting At First Base In Game 1 Of ALDS

New York Yankees outfielder/third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera will start at first base and bat in the eight-hole in Game 1 of the ALDS. Cabrera replaced Anthony Rizzo (finger) after he suffered a fracture during the final week of the regular season and will continue in that current role. Cabrera logged most of his starts at the hot corner this season, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. has claimed that spot since coming over from Miami at the trade deadline. Through September, Cabrera held a solid .280 AVG with two extra-base hits and an overall .247 AVG across 109 games this summer. DFS players should leave the 25-year-old out of their lineup this afternoon as he will face Kansas City right-hander Michael Wacha, who held a strong 2.60 ERA across his final five starts of the season.

Oswaldo Cabrera, Ben Rice Considered "Primary Names" For First Base

With New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (fingers) and infielder DJ LeMahieu (hip) injured, general manager Brian Cashman considers Oswaldo Cabrera and rookie Ben Rice as the "primary names" at first base heading into the American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals, which starts on Saturday. Rizzo is dealing with two fractured fingers and is a long shot to be included on the roster for the Division Series, and LeMahieu has been injured and ineffective all year. Rice will most likely be on the strong side of a platoon to begin the postseason against right-handed pitching, while Cabrera could be inserted at first base against lefties as a switch-hitter. It's not an ideal situation for the Bombers at this time of year. The 25-year-old Rice hit just .171/.264/.349 in his first 50 MLB games despite getting off to a hot start early on. He managed seven homers and 23 RBI.
