Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (finger) is back at first base and batting third in the order on Tuesday against the visiting Houston Astros and rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. Guerrero was hit in his finger on his right hand in Sunday's contest against the New York Yankee. X-rays came back negative, but the Blue Jays scratched him as a precaution for the series opener on Canada Day on Monday against the Astros. The 25-year-old right-handed hitter is back for fantasy managers now and needs to be returned to all starting lineups, especially given the fact that he's heated up at the dish of late. Guerrero will be taking a modest six-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game. During his streak, he's gone 13-for-26 (.500) with four home runs, five doubles and 17 RBI to raise his season slash line to .297/..375/.471.
The Toronto Blue Jays want to make one last run with first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shortstop Bo Bichette, so they should both be staying around past this summer's trade deadline until at least this winter, if not next summer. However, with their season already on the brink, they plan to place left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, catcher Danny Jansen, reliever Yimi Garcia, designated hitter Justin Turner and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the trade block. After the Blue Jays' 3-1 loss on Canada Day on Monday to the Houston Astros, Toronto is currently in dead last in the American League East while sitting eight games out of the last wild-card spot. Guerrero has been hot of late but is also dealing with a finger injury he picked up on Sunday, while Bichette has just not been able to get it going consistently on offense in 2024.
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (hand) was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Houston Astros. Despite getting hit on the hand in Sunday's loss, Guerrero was originally in Toronto's lineup ahead of its series opener, batting third and starting at first base. However, he was later removed from the lineup due to "right fourth/fifth finger discomfort." It appears that the slugging first baseman is still feeling some soreness after getting hit in the hand one day before. The good news is that his X-rays were negative for any fractures, so for now, Guerrero is likely day-to-day.
