We are just days away from Super Bowl 56, and there is plenty of excitement for Sunday’s matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. From a betting perspective, the Super Bowl generally attracts the highest handle of bets of any major US sporting event. In an effort to make the Super Bowl even more entertaining for bettors, DraftKings Sportsbook is offer a unique category of prop bets for the Super Bowl called “novelty props.”
Novelty props are prop bets that do not fall into a game or player prop category. Novelty props are wide-ranging — coin flip, length of the national anthem, Gatorade color of the winning team and more. Let’s take a look at five novelty prop bets offered by DraftKings Sportsbook on Super Bowl 56 that have value.

5 Best Novelty Props on DraftKings Sportsbook
Any Kick to Hit Uprights
- Odds: Yes +400, No -550
- Bet: NO -550
When looking at the novelty prop board, keep in mind this is a very specific market only created for the Super Bowl. This leads to pricing that is hard to quantify for not just a bettor, but also the sportsbook. When looking at the pricing for this novelty prop, laying -550 juice seems absurd, but it is also easily the most likely outcome. In order for this prop to hit, a field goal needs to be missed wide, but only wide enough to doink on the uprights. While betting yes would lead to a big payout and some fun while watching the game, it is too unlikely to be bet with any value.
Jersey Number of First Touchdown Scorer
- Odds: Under 23.5 -140, Over 23.5 +110
- Bet: OVER 23.5 +110
The Rams’ entire receiver core wears a jersey number below 25, and so does starting running back Cam Akers, but I still expect this number to go over. Besides Ja’Marr Chase, all of the Bengals’ primary TD scorers all wear numbers greater than 24. Mix in other players with TD capabilities for the Rams like Tyler Higbee and Darrell Henderson wearing numbers greater than 24, I like the over on this bet.
Coin Toss Outcome
- Odds: Tails -105, Heads -105
- Bet: TAILS -105
This is a fun novelty prop with no real way to get an edge. Other sportsbooks may offer this bet at even odds, so it is important to shop around. However, the mantra goes, “tails never fails,” so I will be riding tails for the coin toss.
Will There Be an Octopus?
- Odds: Yes +1400, No -2500
- Bet: YES +1400
An octopus in an NFL game is when a player scores a touchdown and two-point conversion on the same drive. With both teams relying on a bevy of stud wide receivers and some weaker secondary defensive backs on both sides, I like the odds of a player amassing this unusual feat.
Bengals Win the Coin Toss and Win the Game
- Odds: Yes +350, No -450
- Bet: YES +350
I am on the Bengals Sunday, so I might as well spice it up by adding a coin toss win in as well. I expect the Bengals to call tails, win the toss, defer and win Super Bowl 56.
