The Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins agreed to a trade Sunday, though it wasn’t the big-name deal some might have imagined by reading that first phrase — no quarterbacks were involved. The teams swapped linebacks, with Benardrick McKinney heading to Miami and Shaq Lawson heading the other direction, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal also includes a late-round pick swap.
Houston and Miami have a deal: Texans are trading LB Benardrick McKinney to the Dolphins for LB Shaq Lawson, per league sources. The deal also will include a swap of late-round picks, but the focus is the LBs.

The 28-year-old McKinney has been with the Texans since being drafted in the second round in 2015. He played at least 14 games in each of his first five seasons but as limited to four games in 2020 with a shoulder injury. He made the Pro Bowl in 2018 and was a second-team All Pro in 2016.
Lawson is two years younger than McKinney, going to Buffalo in the first round of 2016. He played four seasons with the Bills before signing with the Dolphins before last season.
