Injuries have plagued Yankees’ lefty Carlos Rodón’s 2023 season, but even when he’s been healthy enough to toe the rubber, he hasn’t been effective. Through six starts he’s posted one of the worst strikeout and swinging-strike percentages of his career. His K% sits at 20.5% – which is about 13% lower than it was last season and 14% lower than it was in 2021. He’s struggled to get punchouts with his fastball which carries an 11% strikeout percentage. His slider has been solid, but he faces a Nats club that is fairly disciplined against that offering. 

The Nats enter Tuesday with the second-lowest strikeout percentage against southpaws at 18.6% – it’s been even lower since the start of August sitting at 16.4%. I mentioned Rodón’s slider above, the Nationals have the second-lowest strikeout percentage against that pitch at 23.4%. In 2023, league average K% against sliders sits at 28.1%. 

Rodón hasn’t pitched since pitched in a few weeks, so I’m expecting him to be on a pitch count. I played under 5.5 Ks -115 this morning but there’s still value up to -150. Use the FTN Prop Shop to ensure you’re betting the best number available.
