Hockey season is in full swing. We will be focusing this article around a very important piece in hockey and NHL DFS — the goaltender. With each set of games, one of us on the FTN hockey team will break down the day’s goalie slate for DFS.
While it’s obviously important for your DFS choice at goalie to get a win, it’s not a dealbreaker. It’s not always the best strategy to just pay up at the top for a goalie on a strong team expected to win. For cash, sure, but if we’re talking GPP we want to reach our extreme potential, so I tend to target goalies who will likely see a lot of shots and have a chance to win the game.
Saturday’s main slate starts at 7 p.m. ET and has eight games. Some goalies have been confirmed already but our team has a good idea who is likely to get the start in net in the other contests. Marc-Andre Fleury, Vegas Golden Knights at SJ

The Sharks were able to solve the Oscar Dansk puzzle to the tune of four goals Friday night, but Fleury will be a much tougher nut to crack. The 36-year-old netminder is having a career year with an 11-3-0 record, 1.71 GAA, .939 SV% and three shutouts through 14 games. The aforementioned San Jose offense is currently 28th in the league in scoring, but the tired Vegas defense should provide Fleury with a lot of opportunities to rack up a high save total.
Jake Oettinger, Dallas Stars vs, CBJ

Oettinger has played some really solid hockey so far, although his 2-1-3 record doesn’t reflect his caliber of play — he has compiled a 2.31 GAA and .913 SV% while not allowing over three goals in any of his six starts. Columbus has a top-heavy offense with the majority of scoring coming from the Patrik Laine, Cam Atkinson and Jack Roslovic line, with the Stars getting the last line matching at home, I feel this could be a great opportunity for Oettinger to get a win in a low scoring affair against the Blue Jackets.
Jordan Binnington, St. Louis Blues at LAK
($7.8k DK/$7.5k FD)
Binnington has had an up-and-down season, looking like a Veniza Trophy candidate one night and then getting beaten for five goals the next night; luckily, he draws the Kings, who have struggled to score goals all season and especially of late with only 13 goals over their past six games. Binnington has allowed two goals in three of his past four games, so there is some value here with a reduced price tag on both sites.

Tournament flier: Joonas Korpisalo, CBJ at DAL ($7.5k DK/$7.2k FD) – It’s likely to be a low-scoring game at Dallas; if Columbus wins, he could provide a low-owned boost to your tournament lineups.
