Multiple times each week, FTN Bets’ resident college basketball junkie, Brad Evans, will attempt to posterize the ‘books with his favorite selections, whether sides, totals, teasers or parlays. As always, fade or follow Brad’s picks — fading is encouraged — that’s up to you.
2-leg alternative line parlay play: Colorado St. (+2.5), Georgia Tech (-5.5) (Tipico Sportsbook)
Odds: +151
Leg 1: Colorado St. (+2.5) at Nevada
In the classic Atari game Pitfall, the premise revolves around you, as a pixelated Harry, dodging gator-filled waters by grabbing a fast-moving rope and swinging safely to the other side. Against Air Force and New Mexico, Niko Medved’s bunch cleared the trap effortlessly. However, Nevada, a super croc by contrast, is one last hazard the Rams must clear in order to solidify their at-large NCAA Tournament standing. Expect them to achieve success. Wolf Pack members Grant Sherfield and Desmond Cambridge have sunk their teeth of late from three. As a group, Nevada has swished 37.6% from three in their past five games. Colorado St. is more than equipped to match trey-for-trey. Over 46% of their shots in conference play came from the arc, netting 37.6%. When Isaiah Stevens, Kendle Moore and Adam Thistlewood are breathing fire, deficits quickly mount for the opposition. Nevada, seventh in the Mountain West in three-point percentage D, will have to be on their toes. Throw in David Roddy’s persistent scores around the basket and the Rams should charge hard through Steve Alford’s stretchable defense. In a game CSU can’t afford to lose, it rises to the occasion for its eighth cover in its last 12 games.
Leg 2: Georgia Tech (-5.5) at Wake Forest
Nail biting. Cold sweats. Hair pulling. For denizens of Bubbleville, nerves are extremely high. Every foul. Every miss. Every mistake. All are exacerbated in these pressure-packed times. Georgia Tech exceeded a significant hurdle last time it took the floor, dispatching equally bubblicious Duke in overtime. To dance, however, it can’t afford a slip up. The Jackets inside-outside combination of Moses Wright and Jose Alvarado is one of the country’s most underheralded. The former is a versatile rim protector who gobbles up boards, deflects shots and piles up paint points. The latter is a fearless floor general with NBA-level handles and a deadly three-point shot (40.8%). Wake, No. 254 in the ACC in overall efficiency the past month according to Torvik, is a very beatable opponent. Tech coaxes ample turnovers which it often converts into breezy layups and dunks. That combined with the Deacs’ fruitless scoring (0.958 pts/poss last eight games) and accommodating defense (1.043 pts/poss allowed) arrow to a Tech cover. Still residing in must-win territory, the Jackets avoid a letdown.
