NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Rankings (12/10)

Welcome to the Week 10 Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire article here at FTN Fantasy. Each weekend I’ll preview the week to come in Fantasy Hockey. I’ll highlight some of the best waiver wire pickups, players to stash, players to buy low and sell high, which players to drop and who to stream. I’ll also highlight some of the injuries, what it means for you and the Fantasy Hockey landscape.

There are 10 teams scheduled to play four games for the week, and four teams with only two games in Week 10 (Dec.11 – Dec. 17). This is a very busy week in fantasy hockey, so managers shouldn’t have issues in terms of games played.

The strategy I like to call “attacking the schedule” can be the difference in winning a championship. Each week, find out which borderline players or streamers wouldn’t crack your lineup on the busy days on the schedule. 

Drop those players for players scheduled to play on the lighter scheduled nights. Those days are usually Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. If you’re in a shallow league or a roto league, this strategy may not mean that much to you. But if you’re not going to play an average player on a busy night like Thursday or Saturday, you’re better off dropping him for someone playing on those lighter days. This strategy is similar to “two-start” pitchers in Fantasy Baseball.

Arizona Coyotes

Lawson Crouse, W 

I’m a big fan of Crouse. He’s got skill, he loves to shoot and he can score. He also throws his body around too, which gives him more value in banger leagues.

Alexander Kerfoot, C/LW

I’d sell high on Kerfoot if you can, but it’s likely nobody is buying. The veteran has been playing on the first power play and he’s logging more minutes with some injuries up front. He has nine points in his last six games. 

Michael Carcone, LW

He won’t keep this up but he has goals in six of his last eight games.

Buffalo Sabres 

(MON @ vs. ARI, WED @ COL, FRI @ VGK, SAT @ ARI)

Casey Mittelstadt, C

Mittelstadt has a quiet 16 assists on the season. He may rack up a few more with Tage Thompson back in the lineup.

Mattias Samuelsson, D

Calgary Flames

(MON @ COL, TUE @ VGK, THU @ MIN, SAT vs. TB)

The Flames don’t really offer much, but here’s how I would rank them this week. 

• Nazem Kadri, C
• MacKenzie Weegar, D
• Rasmus Andersson, D
• Blake Coleman, C/RW
• Elias Lindholm, C
• Yegor Sharangovich, C/LW

Coleman is a sneaky good fantasy asset in deep leagues that account for hits and blocks. He awarded owners with two short handed points this past week. Kadri, Weegar and Anderson are the most consistent players in Calgary. Hold Lindholm if you’re in a good spot in the standings. He could be traded to a much better team soon.

Carolina Hurricanes 

(TUE @ OTT, THU @ DET, FRI vs. NSH, SUN vs. WAS)

Teuvo Teravainen, W 

A quiet week for Teuvo, but he’d be the Hurricane I’d stream this week. Keep an eye on Andrei Svechnikov. I would pick him up if he was dropped. 

Colorado Avalanche 

(MON vs. CGY, WED vs. BUF, SAT @ WPG, SUN vs. SJ)

Everybody you want in Colorado is owned. Consider Ross Colton in the deepest league ever. Stash Artturi Lehkonen.

Detroit Red Wings

(MON @ DAL, TUE @ STL, THU vs. CAR, SAT @ PHI)

Robby Fabbri, C

Fabbri is another sell-high candidate, but I doubt you could fool anyone in your league. He won’t continue to shoot 40%, but he’s getting a shot in the top six and the Red Wings can score. His upside isn’t as high with Dylan Larkin in the lineup. I would add Lucas Raymond over Fabbri, and I’d hold onto Raymond.

New York Islanders 

(MON vs. TOR, WED vs. ANA, FRI vs. BOS, SAT @ MTL)

Anders Lee, LW

Lee only has 10 points on the season, but eight of them have come over his last 11 games. Lee has been a good fantasy asset in the past. He looks a touch slow since suffering a serious knee injury last season. Maybe he’s just getting going. I’m not so sure. Either way, he has a couple good matchups this week.

Ottawa Senators 

(TUE vs. CAR, THU @ STL, FRI @ DAL, SUN @ VGK)

Josh Norris, C

Norris is widely available across most leagues and I think that’s a mistake. I’d be willing to take some of the games where he goes without a point, because I think the ceiling is high. Norris is back on the first line and the first PP. He’s locked into a top six role and the Sens have a strong top six. The Sens have played five or six fewer games than most. Add and buy where you can.

Vladimir Tarasenko, RW

Again, the Sens haven’t played a lot of hockey this season. They have a few four-game weeks coming up. Tarasenko has 19 points in 22 games. That’s pretty solid when you look at points per game. The winger has six points in his last four games as well.

Toronto Maple Leafs

(MON @ NYI, TUE @ NYR, THU vs. CLS, SAT vs. PIT)

Matthew Knies, LW 

Tyler Bertuzzi, LW

Worth a shot considering he’s playing with Auston Matthews and William Nylander. Tyler Bertuzzi is also playing inside the top six. Neither Knies or Bertuzzi are doing much, but they have a couple of good games this week.

Simon Beniot, D

A great source for hits and blocks.

Vancouver Canucks 

(TUE vs. TB, THU vs. FLA, SAT @ MIN, SUN @ CHI)

Sam Lafferty, C/RW

Eight goals on the season and three over his last four games. He may pot a few more if he sticks on the top line with Elias Petterson. He should this week. 

Nils Hoglander, LW

Hoglander is getting a shot on the second line with Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller, so consider him as an option in deep leagues.
