Colson Montgomery Snaps Skid With Home Run

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery was able to snap his skid with a two-hit outing on Sunday afternoon. Montgomery hit his second long ball of the Triple-A regular season in this outing, which was his first since the season opener. Over his last 11 games leading up to Sunday, Montgomery posted an underwhelming .075/.178/.075 slash line with just three total hits (all singles) and one RBI. Montgomery will look to carry Sunday's momentum into the next week. The former 22nd overall pick was competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster during spring training but fell just short in the competition. Last season, he spent the entire campaign with Triple-A Charlotte and held a modest .214/.329/.381 line. If he continues to improve with Triple-A, he could push for a midseason MLB debut.

Colson Montgomery Optioned To Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday that they optioned shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery (back) to Triple-A Charlotte. Montgomery, who is ranked as the No. 39 overall prospect this year per MLB Pipeline, had a real shot to open the 2025 regular season as Chicago's starting shortstop, but a back injury has limited him to just four Cactus League games. The 23-year-old will surely make his major-league debut at some point this year, probably sooner than later, but the rebuilding White Sox aren't going to rush things. The former first-rounder (22nd overall) in 2021 also has only one hit (a homer) and five strikeouts in his nine spring plate appearances. Montgomery could probably use some more seasoning on the farm before his big-league debut, but his power makes him an interesting stash dynasty/keeper leagues. Brooks Baldwin, Jacob Amaya and Chase Meidroth are now competing at the 6 in camp.

Colson Montgomery Still In Contention To Make Opening Day Roster

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery (back) is still in contention to make the Opening Day roster despite the missed time during camp. The infielder was sidelined for 10 days due to a back injury. However, manager Will Venable noted that his injury will not affect his chances of making the roster. Montgomery is considered one of the top prospects in the White Sox system. He was drafted with the 22nd overall selection in the 2021 MLB Draft. The 23-year-old spent the entire 2024 season at the Triple-A level and held a .214/.329/.381 line with 21 doubles and 18 home runs. He swiped eight bags and carried a 69:164 BB:K. He showed progress during the final month of the season as he held a .264/.357/.458 line. If he were to make the roster, he will compete with Brooks Baldwin for an everyday role at shortstop.
