College basketball season is back, which means it’s time to search for betting edges on the hardwood.

Below, you’ll find FTN’s college basketball power rankings for the 2024 season. These will be updated every week after games, adjusting for results, news and injuries. We can use these ratings to create a point spread between any two teams in the country on a neutral court. Just subtract the lower team’s rating from the higher-ranked team’s rating. If you compare that number to the spread of a particular game, you can find situations where FTN identifies a betting edge. We will also keep track of teams that are trending up or down, helping to further identify value compared to the public’s perception on media polls.

Key Takeaways

  • Houston remains the top team in our CBB Power Rankings, despite its early-season loss to Auburn. The Tigers are the top team in both KenPom and Torvik yet are only No. 7 in the current AP Poll.
  • Duke and Gonzaga are now No. 2 and No. 3 in our FTN CBB Power Rankings, boasting a combined record of 9-1. The Blue Devils earned an impressive 69-55 road win at Arizona, while the Bulldogs drilled San Diego State, 80-67.
  • Tennessee made a significant move, rising two spots to No. 4 overall, after crushing Baylor 80-62 to win the Baha Mar Championship. The Volunteers are now 6-0 on the season and boast the No. 2 overall defense, per KenPom.
  • Kentucky continues to roll under new head coach Mark Pope, rising five spots to No. 11 overall after scoring a combined 205 points in wins over Lipscomb and Jackson State. The Wildcats are looking forward to a December 7 clash against Gonzaga in Seattle.
  • Here come the BYU Cougars. Led by sensational 6-foot-9 freshman Egor Demin, the Cougars are a perfect 5-0 and rose six spots to No. 12 overall in our power rankings. BYU hired longtime NBA assistant Kevin Young, who has the Cougars among the nation’s best in both offensive and defensive rebounding.
  • Our biggest faller is Texas, which fell seven spots to No. 18 overall. The Longhorns won the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center but failed to impress in either win over Syracuse or St. Joseph’s. Texas will have a chance to change that narrative with a December 8 home battle with the two-time defending champion Connecticut Huskies.
