The Best NHL Bets

St. Louis Blues ML

(+205, bet365, William Hill)

The Blues have gotten off to a rough start to their 2024-25 campaign, and it led to Head Coach Drew Bannister getting canned after Saturday’s loss to the Islanders. They immediately hired former Stars and Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery to take over behind the bench. The new hire should give them the immediate coaching-change boost. As a whole, the Blues offense hasn’t been too bad, but their defense has underwhelmed, and their goaltending led by Jordan Binnington has been awful. Here’s hoping that Montgomery is able to help lock things down defensively like he did in Dallas and Boston. I think the Blues as a big underdog has a lot of value tonight. The Rangers are coming home for their first game after a long road trip and haven’t looked like the same team this season from a defensive standpoint. In the month of November, their 5v5 team defense is 27th in the NHL and looked completely exposed in their last game against the Oilers.

Adrian Kempe Over 3.5 SOG

(+110, bet365)

Kempe is the most aggressive player on the Kings’ roster and is on a scoring tear with five goals over his last four games. In the month of November, he has averaged 3.4 SOG per game while also putting up 5.3 Fenwick (unblocked shot attempts) per game. He’ll get to face a Sharks team that averages 34.55 SOG allowed per game in the month of November, which is more than any other team in the NHL.

San Jose Sharks +1.5

(-125, BetMGM)

The Sharks have improved significantly this season thanks to the additions of free-agent signing Tyler Toffoli, a trade acquisition in Jake Walman and the No. 1 overall draft pick in Macklin Celebrini. Walman is someone who can be considered as an advanced-stats darling. He has proven to be dependable against tough competition but came off a tough, injury-ridden season, which was a big reason why the Sharks were able to acquire him and take on his big contract. Walman’s presence has helped the Sharks be competitive in almost all games this season, which is a departure from the frequent blowouts they were a part of in the last few seasons. Since starting off the season winless until October 28, they’ve played 14 games and have won six of them. Their eight losses have included five with a one-goal differential. I think the Sharks keep this one close, so I’ll take the 1.5 goals.

Filip Forsberg Under 3.5 SOG

(+120, bet365)

I rarely, if ever, take unders when targeting shot props, but everything I have in my model supports Forsberg’s downward trend this season. He has only gone over 3.5 SOG in three of 11 games in the month of November, and part of that is because he is no longer the main scoring threat on the top power-play unit, thanks to the addition of Steven Stamkos. The Devils have also been very stingy defensively, and allow the seventh-fewest SOG per game.
