2024-2025 College Basketball Preview: Seton Hall Pirates

Share

Check out our entire college basketball season preview!

The college basketball season is less than three weeks away, and here at FTN Fantasy we have you covered for what promises to be another thrilling year of upsets and incredible finishes. I will be taking you around the country with a betting preview of the major conferences. I recap the betting trends from last season, list projected starters, preview the season, identify a key player, and reveal how I’m backing or fading each team.

Let’s continue with the Big East, home of the two-time defending national champion Connecticut Huskies. This 11-team conference plays its conference tournament in the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden in New York City. While UConn has won two straight NCAA Championships, there has been a new regular-season conference champion in each of the past four seasons. The Big East is one of the few conferences that did not expand or contract, relying on its rich history and elite level of basketball that started 45 years ago.

Let’s continue with our betting preview for the Seton Hall Pirates.

2024-2025 College Basketball Season Preview: Seton Hall Pirates

Conference: Big East
Head Coach: Shaheen Holloway (3rd season)
2023-2024 Record: 25-12 (13-7)
ATS: 18-19
O/U: 18-18-1
Projected Starters: G Zion Harmon; G Chaunce Jenkins; F Isaiah Coleman; F Dylan Addae-Wusu; F Gus Yalden

Head coach Shaheen Holloway just missed out on the NCAA Tournament but recovered nicely with an NIT Championship. The Pirates’ roster was decimated, returning only 25.9% of their minutes from last season’s 25-win team. Holloway loaded up in the transfer portal with seven new players that comprise the 30th-best transfer class per 247 Sports. Zion Harmon brings scoring from Bethune Cookman, Chaunce Jenkins is a strong two-way player from Old Dominion, and Gus Yalden is a former four-star recruit who redshirted at Wisconsin. This team will be led by returning veterans Dylan Addae-Wusu (8.6 PPG, 1.6 SPG) and sophomore guard Isaiah Coleman (5.4 PPG). Coleman earned Big East All-Freshman Team honors last season.

Key Player: Chaunce Jenkins/Zion Harmon

This team will be a blue-collar group that will be in desperate need of scoring. They struggled last year, even with Kadary Richmond, but now without their former leader and 15 PPG scorer Dre Davis (Ole Miss), they need to find consistent success on the offensive end. Jenkins has that potential, scoring almost 16 PPG with the Monarchs, but his 40% FG accuracy is concerning. Harmon scored at Bethune Cookman but shot a woeful 39.1% from the field over two seasons. Seton Hall needs production but with more efficiency.
