Training camps provide our first look into NFL players and teams as we prepare for the upcoming fantasy football season. Information will now begin to flood our social media timelines, leaving us to determine the subsequent fantasy impact. It’s a matter of knowing which information matters, and which should be ignored.

So each day in this space, we’ll take a trip through the top news and takeaways around the league’s training camps to offer up what fantasy managers need to know as we head through draft season and into the 2024 NFL regular season.

Today, let’s review the major news as we start from Thursday into Friday.

Drake Maye plays one series; Joe Milton stands out in preseason game

Let’s not get carried away with Thursday night’s preseason action, but Milton had some impressive moments.

It’s possible he gets time throughout the regular season should something happen to Jacoby Brissett and the coaching staff feels Maye isn’t ready. At the same time, I fully expect Maye to get the same kind of work in the next preseason game for the Patriots. These are important reps for a rookie QB, and it’s Jerod Mayo’s job to get Maye ready should an opportunity arise throughout the season.

Ja’Lynn Polk did not play with the starters, but he caught three passes, and he played ahead of Javon Baker. It’s only a matter of time before Polk plays with the first-team offense. I’m very interested in Polk near the end of drafts.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Eric Gray battle for RB2 status in New York

Tracy played ahead of Gray in Thursday night’s preseason win over the Detroit Lions, but Gray looked better. Gray only touched the field a couple of times in the first four drives, but he finished the game with 98 total yards, four catches and two rushing touchdowns. These two will battle for the backup role behind Devin Singletary.

Rondale Moore lost for the season

Moore was carted off the field this week, and the Falcons confirmed Thursday he suffered a season-ending knee injury. The former Cardinal wasn’t going to offer much to fantasy managers and neither will Ray-Ray McCloud III, but he’s the next man up. All eyes will be on Drake London and Kyle Pitts in the new-look offense with Kirk Cousins and OC Zach Robinson. However, take a few shots on Darnell Mooney as he’s the deep threat in Atlanta’s offense and he’s only a couple years removed from a 1,000-yard season.
