The 2025 NFL free agency period is slowing down, and many players have found new homes. It’s time to take a refreshed look at our vacated opportunities to find the fantasy football gaps.
What is a “vacated opportunity?” For example, if the Seahawks passed the ball 100 times last year, and 50 of those passes went to DK Metcalf (no longer in Seattle), their vacated opportunity target share would be 50%.
Our numbers might look slightly different than others because I’m only reviewing WR, RB and TEs. Yes, sometimes a lineman or a defensive player gets a target here and there, but I’m excluding those.

Last time we ran this exercise, the Commanders had a lot of vacated opportunities – but those gaps have been sealed.
From a fantasy perspective, the Chiefs remain the most interesting team, and they have the most vacated share. I’d say their vacated share is slightly misleading because Marquise Brown is back after missing the vast majority of 2024, and Rashee Rice is coming back.
Buffalo extended Khalil Shakir but is still a contender for a rookie WR in Round 1.
The Colts are interesting … if you’re an Anthony Richardson believer.
The new Browns QB is going to have a relatively new supporting cast, too. Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Rebuild time in Cleveland!

The Cowboys didn’t make any significant moves in free agency at RB, so keep an eye on them on draft day.
Jaylen Warren time in Pittsburgh? It feels unlikely they’ll turn to him as a bellcow, but the stage is set for Warren if he escapes draft weekend without serious competition.
The Panthers officially have a surplus at RB. Chuba Hubbard figures to still be the guy, but Rico Dowdle is a very capable backup. He’ll be a nice “Zero RB” target.
