2024 College Basketball Power Rankings

College basketball season is back, which means it’s time to search for betting edges on the hardwood.

Below, you’ll find FTN’s college basketball power rankings for the 2024 season. These will be updated every week after games, adjusting for results, news and injuries. We can use these ratings to create a point spread between any two teams in the country on a neutral court. Just subtract the lower team’s rating from the higher-ranked team’s rating. If you compare that number to the spread of a particular game, you can find situations where FTN identifies a betting edge. We will also keep track of teams that are trending up or down, helping to further identify value compared to the public’s perception on media polls.

• Gonzaga looked dominant against Baylor in their opening win and then struggled against Arizona State in an 88-80 win. After dropping 113 points in a 59-point home win over UMass Lowell, the Bulldogs seem back on track as they head to San Diego State tonight. With early-December matchups against Kentucky and Connecticut, Gonzaga is closer to No. 1 than most realize. 
• Tennessee always starts strong, and this year’s 4-0 record is another example. The Volunteers rose seven spots this past week to No. 6 in our rankings, a huge discrepancy from their current No. 11 AP ranking. 
• Alabama dropped four spots to No. 10 overall after a disappointing 87-78 loss at Purdue. That followed two close wins over Arkansas State and McNeese State. The Crimson Tide have taken 47% of their shots from beyond the arc, but that has only generated 29.3% of their points. Live by the 3P, die by the 3P. 
• UCLA is not ranked in the AP Poll but sits in the 12th spot in our power rankings. The Bruins rose eight spots to No. 12 overall after crushing Boston University and Lehigh at home. The only blip was a 72-64 neutral-court loss to New Mexico, but Kobe Johnson was severely hampered by foul trouble. As always, Mick Cronin’s team is among the elite defensive teams in the nation. 
• Shaka Smart is back at it again. Marquette earned an impressive 78-74 road win at Maryland and rose seven spots to 19th overall in our rankings. Kam Jones has elevated his game to a new level, posting 28 points in the win over the Terrapins. Marquette could continue to rise with a home game against Purdue on Tuesday and a matchup in the Bahamas against Georgia on Saturday.
