2024-2025 College Basketball Preview: TCU Horned Frogs

Share

Check out our entire college basketball season preview!

The college basketball season is less than three weeks away, and here at FTN Fantasy we have you covered for what promises to be another thrilling year of upsets and incredible finishes. I will be taking you around the country with a betting preview of the major conferences. I recap the betting trends from last season, list projected starters, preview the season, identify a key player, and reveal how I’m backing or fading each team.

Let’s start with the best conference in college basketball, the Big 12. Last season, the conference added four new teams in Houston, BYU, Cincinnati and UCF. This year, the conference expanded to 16 teams, with Arizona State, Utah, Colorado and Arizona bolstering an already-elite conference. The Big 12 says farewell to Texas and Oklahoma, who are now in the SEC.

Let’s take a look at our betting preview for the TCU Horned Frogs.

2024-2025 College Basketball Season Preview: TCU Horned Frogs

Conference: Big 12
Head Coach: Jamie Dixon (9th season)
2022-2023 Record: 19-15 (9-9)
ATS: 19-15
O/U: 19-15
Projected Starters: G Frankie Collins; G Noah Reynolds; G Trazerian White.; F Brendan Wenzel; F Ernest Udeh

Hard to believe this is Jaime Dixon’s ninth year at his alma mater. The Horned Frogs have won 20-plus games for three straight seasons but have remained around the .500 mark in conference play for that same duration of time. TCU has made three straight NCAA Tournaments but bowed out to Utah State as a 9-seed last season.

Dixon hit the transfer portal hard, bringing in six new players that should all make an immediate impact.  The headliner is Trazaren White, a prolific scorer from UNC-Wilmington who averaged 19.8 PPG. Frankie Collins (13.8 PPG, 2.6 SPG) was a solid two-way point guard for Arizona State, and Noah Reynolds was a difference-making guard at Green Bay averaging 20 PPG. Sprinkle in Wyoming-transfer Brendan Wenzel’s elite shooting (38% 3P on 5.4 3PA), and there is a solid foundation for success if Dixon can find that elusive transfer chemistry.

Key Player: Noah Reynolds/Trazerian White

Dixon will need one of these scorers to hit. Their ability to make the defense collapse should open up shots for Wenzel, one of the best shooters in the country. White should pair well with Collins on the fast break, which is where the Horned Frogs production needs to be grounded. Udeh is a serviceable big man, but nothing more. He is a rim protector but not a scorer.
