San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) is practicing in a limited fashion on Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice due to a shoulder injury. The 27-year-old picked up the ailment in the first quarter of the NFC Divisional-Round win over the Green Bay Packers after catching two passes for 24 yards. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to suit up on Sunday against the Detroit Lions with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, but his return to practice is a great first step in doing so. If he plays, he'll face a Detroit defense that surrendered the third-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers during the regular season. If he can't go, Brandon Aiyuk should be in for a monster game, while Jauan Jennings will likely be elevated to the No. 2 WR role.
While San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) was officially listed as a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, he did do some full-field sprints with a football tucked under his arm. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Samuel was "feeling better" on Wednesday after leaving the Divisional Round win over the Green Bay Packers last weekend with a left-shoulder injury and never returning. The good news is Samuel isn't dealing with a fracture, but it might be about pain tolerance for him as he looks to suit up in the NFC Championship this Sunday against the Detroit Lions. If the 28-year-old can rejoin the team for practice the next two days, he'll have a shot at playing this weekend. If Samuel is out or a decoy on Sunday, it will mean more work for the likes of Jauan Jennings, Chris Conley and Ray-Ray McCloud III.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) is not taking part in the team's Wednesday walkthrough practice. The 28-year-old exited the NFC Divisional Round win over the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury after logging 24 yards on two receptions. His injury is not considered significant, but it could still hold him out of the NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions. According to ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner, Thursday's practice will give DFS gamers a better idea of if Samuel has a shot to suit up on Sunday. The Lions were a bottom-five team against fantasy wideouts during the regular season, so Samuel would have plenty of upside if he's healthy enough to play. If Samuel is out, Brandon Aiyuk should be in for a fantastic day. Detroit gave up at least 147 receiving yards to CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, and Mike Evans over the last four weeks.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was seen on the sidelines getting his quadriceps worked on during the win over the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on Saturday night, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said the star running back isn't dealing with an injury. "No, I heard about that on the TV [broadcast] because some of my family members asked me about it," Shanahan said. "But that's just what Christian to me always does. He's always working on his body and stuff. I was told nothing about his quad." CMC strained his calf in Week 17 and was held out of the Week 18 regular season finale, but he looked fine in his return against Green Bay, rushing for 98 yards on 17 carries while scoring two touchdowns. He'll once again be the highest-priced RB at DraftKings for the Championship round of the postseason this weekend.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) doesn't have a fractured shoulder, "which is a good sign," but he's dealing with a lot of pain, which makes his status fuzzy for Sunday's NFC Championship game against the Detroit Lions. Shanahan thinks he'll have a better idea of Samuel's availability for this weekend's big game on Wednesday, when the team holds its first practice. The 49ers are considering the 28-year-old 50-50 for the game this Sunday, so there's a good chance he'll be more of a game-time decision. It will make things difficult for DFS gamers playing the two-game slate this weekend, as the Niners-Lions kick off in the evening after the Chiefs and Ravens do. And if Samuel is active, there's a chance he could be more of a decoy for the Lions defense.
