Carolina Hurricanes -1.5

The Devils are simply outmatched against the Hurricanes, and it’s as simple as just not having their best player available. Jack Hughes. Without Hughes available, the Devils just don’t have enough firepower against a Hurricanes team who are extremely good in their own zone. Their third d-pairing of Shayne Gostisbehere and Sean Walker would be a No. 1 d-pairing on a number of other teams. Jaccob Slavin and Brent Burns might just be the best d-pairing in hockey. And lastly, Dmitry Orlov is a superstar defensemen who rarely ever gets talked about. He has now gone 10 straight NHL seasons with a positive plus/minus rating, which is insane considering the competition he’s usually up against. Without Jack Hughes, there’s just a severe lack of playmakers on the Devils roster. I don’t see the Hurricanes letting up offensively and I don’t see the Devils scoring enough goals to compete. I think the Hurricanes -1.5 puck line is an outstanding value, and we’re going to take it for 2 units.

I am very interested in investing a unit or two on shot-on-goal ladders on high volume shot takers as long as there’s some value. There’s always more value doing so in the playoffs because of the possibility of extra time due to no limit in overtimes. Tuesday, I think there’s a ton of value in Matt Boldy’s SOG props. He’s still priced fairly generously for someone who is getting a big upgrade in linemates. Due to injuries, he has not been able to play with linemates at the caliber of both Joel Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov for the vast majority of the 2024-25 season. This particular trio has been sensational together—putting up a 64.77 CF%, 75 GF%, and 28 high-danger scoring chances in roughly 134 minutes of ice time together in 5v5 play this season. Boldy was extremely aggressive on Sunday against Vegas, but did end up missing the net on five shots. I think the Wild will put up another strong fight against the Golden Knights, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Boldy is a big part of it.
