Commanders Sign Sam Hartman, Others To Futures Deals

The Washington Commanders announced on Tuesday that they signed quarterback Sam Hartman, running back Kazmeir Allen, defensive tackle Viliami Fehoko Jr., guard Julian Good-Jones, tight ends Tyree Jackson and Cole Turner, defensive end Andre Jones Jr., wide receiver Chris Moore and safety Ben Nikkel to Reserve/Futures deals. Hartman went undrafted in 2024 but eventually latched on with the Commanders for training camp. The 25-year-old signal-caller didn't make the 53-man active roster for the start of the regular season but did spend time on the active roster later in the season when backup Marcus Mariota landed on Injured Reserve. However, Hartman never saw action in a regular season game and is still looking to make his NFL debut. With Mariota set to become a free agent in March, the Commanders have opted to bring Hartman back as QB insurance this offseason.

Terry McLaurin Expected To Seek Extension This Offseason

The Athletic's Ben Standig writes that Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin's agent is expected to seek a new deal for the second-team All-Pro pass-catcher this offseason after recording his fifth straight 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024. In 17 regular-season games, McLaurin had 82 receptions on 117 targets for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns as rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels elevated the entire offense. McLaurin added 14 catches on 23 targets for 227 yards and three touchdowns in the team's three playoff games. Going into the 2025 campaign, McLaurin's seventh in the league, he will be much more expensive in fantasy drafts as a WR1 after Daniels' impressive rookie season. In his six years in the NFL, McLaurin has 38 total touchdowns in 97 regular-season games and is averaging 65.8 yards per game.

Terry McLaurin Scores In NFC Championship

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin caught three of his seven targets for 51 yards and a score during their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. McLaurin's best play of the afternoon came in the second quarter when he scored on a 36-yard catch-and-run. However, during the second half, the top wideout was quiet as Jayden Daniels directed most of the passing attack toward tight end Zach Ertz. His 51 yards and seven targets placed him second among pass-catchers, only behind Ertz in both statistics. McLaurin has found the back of the end zone in each playoff game. During the regular season, McLaurin enjoyed a career season as he found the back end zone 13 times, which set a new franchise record. He also eclipsed the century mark for the fourth straight season. McLaurin should be viewed as a solid WR2 with upside heading into the 2025 campaign with Daniels under center.

Zach Ertz Eclipses 100 Yards In NFC Title Game

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz caught 11 of his 16 targets for 104 yards during their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Ertz's 16 targets were the most on the team and nine more than the top wideout, Terry McLaurin. With the Commanders losing throughout most of the game, they relied on their passing attack to attempt to keep up with the Eagles. The veteran tight end was Jayden Daniels' go-to option all afternoon, especially on fourth downs. Last weekend, during their upset victory over the Detroit Lions, Ertz caught all five of his targets for 28 yards and a score. Throughout his debut season in Washington, Ertz was a key weapon in the Washington pass attack. Across 17 regular season contests, the 34-year-old tallied 654 yards and seven scores on 66 receptions.

Austin Ekeler Quiet In Loss To Philadelphia

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler tallied just 32 all-purpose yards during their loss in the NFC Championship game to the Philadelphia Eagles. Ekeler also lost a fumble. The Commanders were playing from behind throughout most of the contest, putting their rushing attack out of the game plan. However, even when Ekeler was given the ball through the air, he could not perform. He caught five of his seven targets but tallied just 17 yards. His seven targets tied him the second-most on the team, only behind tight end Zach Ertz. Throughout the season, the 29-year-old operated primarily as a change-of-pace option in the Washington backfield. Entering Sunday, Ekeler posted a strong 10.3 yards per catch and a 4.8 yards per carry. Ekeler will likely remain in this role next season as he enters the final year of his contract.
