Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (thumb) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. Friedl underwent X-rays on Sunday, but they came back negative. Clearly, that wasn't the case as Friedl is set to miss time due to a fractured left field. This is a tough blow considering Friedl just returned from a stint on the injured list. Will Benson and the newly recalled Jacob Hurtubise figure to split up the playing time in the outfield.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (thumb) was pulled out of Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The speedy outfielder was taken out after being hit in the hand by a pitch. Luckily, the X-rays came back clean and Friedl is only dealing with a left thumb contusion. The Reds might decide to hold him out for a few days depending on the pain and swelling. If he misses time, Jake Fraley and Stuart Fairchild would probably see more action in the outfield.
The Cincinnati Reds have activated outfielder TJ Friedl (wrist) from the 10-day injured list. Friedl has yet to play this season due to a fractured right wrist. The outfielder is expected to replace Stuart Fairchild as the Reds starting center fielder. During his minor-league rehab assignment, Friedl went 4-for-16 with three doubles, three runs scored, and two RBI. Last season, Friedl slashed .279/.352/.467 with 18 home runs and can be a viable fantasy option due to his on-base ability and his ability to hit home runs. Friedl is currently owned in 44% of leagues on Yahoo and 31% on ESPN. He will get the chance to be an everyday player in the lineup going forward. Friedl is in center field and batting leadoff in his return on Tuesday against Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (wrist), who played in the fourth game of his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, could return as soon as Tuesday's series opener versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Friedl was scheduled to have a call with manager David Bell and other decision-makers on Sunday regarding this matter. Friedl has gone 4-for-16 (.250) with two RBI and three doubles over his four outings in the minors as he recuperates from a fractured right wrist that he suffered during spring training, and fantasy managers should consider adding the center fielder in all leagues with his activation from the injured list sounding imminent. Last season, the speedy 28-year-old slashed a potent .279/.352/.467 with 18 home runs, 66 RBI, 73 runs scored, and 27 stolen bases across 556 plate appearances as Cincy's primary center fielder. When Friedl returns to the Reds, Will Benson is going to lose playing time.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (wrist) and left-handed reliever Alex Young (back) are heading out on minor-league rehab assignments on Thursday with Triple-A Louisville. Manager David Bell said the rehab assignment will be like spring training for Friedl, who had his spring training cut short due to a small fracture in his right wrist in mid-March. It means that the 28-year-old will likely be in the minors for the maximum amount of time, especially given how crowded Cincy's outfield rotation already is. Once he's back with the Reds, Friedl will battle for playing time against right-handed pitching. Young, who is on the 60-day injured list while recovering from low-back disc degeneration, won't be eligible to return until late May.
