New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) is scheduled to play nine innings in a minor-league rehab game on Friday with Triple-A Syracuse and could be activated from the injured list on Sunday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The Mets are just waiting to see if Marte can play back-to-back games on defense before bringing him back to the big-league roster. The 35-year-old veteran has been out since June 22, so the Mets could ease him back into everyday duties in right field in Queens once he's back. The Dominican could be a huge boost for the Mets offense as they look to claim the final wild-card spot in the National League down the stretch in 2024. Marte's return could mostly be bad news for recent trade acquisition Jesse Winker's playing time. Before getting hurt, the two-time All-Star was hitting .278 (68-for-245) with seven homers, 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 66 games.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) could be activated from the 10-day injured list this weekend. In Marte's three minor-league rehab games with Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton, he's gone 2-for-7 with a home run and a stolen base. The veteran outfielder is recovering from a bone bruise in his right knee, but as long as he doesn't suffer a setback while playing in the minors the rest of the week, it sounds like he should rejoin the team for their weekend series against the visiting division-rival Miami Marlins. Marte has been on the injured list since June 25 but should eventually return to everyday duties in right field for the Mets. The 35-year-old Dominican will return to a .278/.328/.416 slash line with a .745 OPS, seven home runs, 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases whenever he's reinstated.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) is officially set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday for Single-A St. Lucie, which will mark his first game action since June 22. It's a major step forward for Marte, who recently said he expects to advance to Double-A Binghamton by the end of this week. Barring any setbacks, that would put him on track to rejoin the Mets during their nine-game homestand that begins next Tuesday against the visiting Oakland Athletics. Fantasy managers should grab the 35-year-old former All-Star from waiver wires where they can at this stage of his recovery from a bone bruise. Before getting hurt, Marte was chipping in to each category while batting .278 (68-for-245) with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 38 runs scored, and 12 stolen bases in 66 games as New York's primary right fielder. Despite Jesse Winker's presence, Marte should return to a prominent role for the Mets upon his return.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee), who is on the 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his right knee, will fly with the Mets to Anaheim to continue working with team trainers this weekend before joining Single-A St. Lucie on Monday on a rehab assignment. Marte expects to join Double-A Binghamton for more minor-league rehab games by the end of next week. Barring a setback, the 35-year-old veteran outfielder should rejoin the big-league lineup around the middle of August. Because he's been out since late June, the Mets are going to give him plenty of at-bats in the minors to get his timing back at the plate. When he's ready, Marte will return to starting duties in right field in Queens. Before his knee injury, he was slashing a strong .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 245 at-bats.
New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) said on Tuesday he hopes to start a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as next week. After resting his right knee over the All-Star break, Marte began a running progression this past weekend and is progressing toward returning to game action. He's still unlikely to rejoin the Mets until sometime in mid-August, but fantasy managers should make sure the 35-year-old former All-Star isn't floating around on any waiver wires at this point in his recovery from a bone bruise. Before going down, Marte was producing well across the board while batting .278 (68-for-245) with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 38 runs scored, and 12 stolen bases over 66 games as New York's primary right fielder. With the addition of Jesse Winker to a crowded outfield in Queens, however, it remains to be seen if Marte will return to an everyday role upon his eventual reinstatement from the injured list.
