Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan (elbow) has ramped up to throwing from 90 feet. Manager Kevin Cash said on Friday that McClanahan is "progress well," although he's still in the early stages of his rehab from the second Tommy John procedure of his career. The 27-year-old southpaw is expected to miss the entire 2024 season. In a best-case scenario, it's possible that he'll return in the late stages this year, but fantasy managers in single-year formats shouldn't count on it at all. McClanahan was officially placed on the 60-day injured list on Feb. 14 before the team's first spring training workout. He underwent his second Tommy John surgery on Aug. 21 of 2023.

McClanahan is recovering from his second Tommy John surgery in August of last year and is expected to miss all of the 2024 season. The 26-year-old southpaw should be taken off all cheat sheets for upcoming fantasy drafts in single-year leagues. In a best-case scenario, McClanahan would return to help pitch for the Rays if they make a deep postseason run this fall. He's been an All-Star each of the last two years and was a Cy Young candidate in the American League in 2022 after posting a career-best 2.54 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with a career-high 194 strikeouts in 166 1/3 innings over 28 starts.

The Tampa Bay Rays and left-hander Shane McClanahan have avoided arbitration with a two-year, $7.2 million deal. The young stud pitcher will miss most, if not all of the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August, the main reason why this is a two-year deal. It's a devastating injury for all parties involved as the southpaw posted a 3.29 ERA in 21 starts before his injury after working to a dominant 2.54 ERA across 28 starts in the 2022 season. All told, the 26-year-old sports a career 3.02 ERA in 74 starts and 404 2/3 innings of work while also posting a tidy 20.9% K-BB%. He is certainly worth an injury stash throughout the 2024 season with the hope he can return to form upon his return late in the year or in the 2025 campaign.
