Cincinnati Reds infielder Noelvi Marte is out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival St. Louis Cardinals. With Marte out, Santiago Espinal will draw the start at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde. Marte will get a day off after starting at third base in each of the last 10 games. The 22-year-old Dominican got a late start in 2024 due to suspension and has yet to hit his stride, slashing .179/.218/.299 with three home runs, 12 RBI, four steals and 16 runs scored in 134 at-bats for the Reds. The Reds can only hope that he can figure it out offensively at some point to close out just his second year in the big leagues. Espinal offers a limited ceiling at the bottom of Cincy's batting order with only eight homers and eight steals in 229 at-bats as a utility infielder this year.
After returning from an 80-game suspension for PED's, Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Noelvi Marte has struggled mightily in 16 games with a .175 batting average to go along with one homer, six RBI and two stolen bases. It has many managers wondering what to do with the former top tier prospect in the second half of the season. With Marte missing so much time due to the suspension, he is still in a Spring Training type mode and the hope is the All-Star break has given the 22-year-old some time to clear his mind and shake off all the rust to have a strong second half. The playing time will be there for the youngster and managers for now should remain patient. If he continues to struggle for the next few weeks or loses playing time, managers in redraft leagues can consider moving on. However, with the potential to help across board, managers should remain patient.
Cincinnati Reds infielder Noelvi Marte is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Miami Marlins. It will be Marte's first day off since returning from an 80-game suspension in the first half of the 2024 season. The 22-year-old has struggled in his first 16 games for the Reds this year, going 11-for-62 (.177) with a homer, two doubles, six RBI, two stolen bases, one walk and 22 strikeouts in 66 plate appearances. He should have a regular role at the hot corner in Cincinnati in the second half, though, and should remain rostered in most fantasy leagues for his power upside in a hitter-friendly environment. With Marte sitting out on Sunday, Santiago Espinal is at third base and batting eighth against Marlins left-hander Trevor Rogers. Espinal has limited DFS upside in the eight-hole and is hitting just .211 (41-for-194) on the season with six homers and six steals.
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Noelvi Marte homered for the first time this season in Wednesday night's win over the hosting New York Yankees in the Bronx. In addition to making a nice backhanded snag in the eighth inning, Marte cranked a two-run homer to left off scuffling Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon to give the Reds a 2-0 lead in the second frame. The 22-year-old former top prospect is only 4-for-24 so far this year following an 80-game suspension, but he's already up to four RBI and two stolen bases in six outings. Marte offers an intriguing blend of power and speed at the hot corner for fantasy managers, and with Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) done for the season and Matt McLain (shoulder) still not close to returning, he's got a fairly clear pathway to playing time for the remainder of the year.
Cincinnati Reds infielder Noelvi Marte made his return in style on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base in an 11-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Marte was making his return from a PED suspension handed down before the season started. After a shaky run in the minors before his return to the majors, it seemed like it would take some time for Marte to get back to form. Well, so far so good on that front, as the 22-year-old continued right where he left off last year. Marte can provide all five categories for fantasy owners if everything clicks, so he should be rostered in most leagues, especially categories.
