Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) resumed all baseball activities prior to Tuesday's game against the visiting Oakland Athletics, going through a full workout on the field and a full program in the batting cage. Both Lowe and the Rays are pleased with his progress as he works his way through a strained right oblique, and the outfielder said he will now ramp up his activity every day. Lowe still has to hit against a high-velocity pitching machine and throw to bases at game speed, but he expects to be ready to return to Tampa Bay's outfield by the time he's first eligible to return, which would be during the first week of June. The 26-year-old left-handed slugger got a late start to the season due to injury, slashing a mediocre .240/.296/.440 with two home runs, three RBI, and five runs scored through just 50 at-bats (14 games), but his five-category fantasy upside in the top-third of Tampa's lineup makes him a must-stash player in all leagues.
The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 23) on Saturday with a right-oblique strain and reinstated right-hander Chris Devenski (knee) from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. It will be the second time this year already that Lowe has been put on the IL, and fantasy managers should expect him to miss more than 10 days given the nature of his injury. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter left Wednesday's game early against the Boston Red Sox with right-side tightness, and an MRI exam on Thursday showed a dreaded oblique strain. Lowe's power/speed upside makes him worth stashing in all fantasy formats again while he's hurt. In the meantime, the biggest beneficiary in Tampa's outfield with Lowe hurt will most likely be Jonny DeLuca.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (side) remains out of the team's lineup on Friday as they face the visiting Kansas City Royals. The Rays had the day off on Thursday, but Lowe will not be able to return after having to leave Wednesday's game early due to a right-side strain. The results of the MRI exam that he had on Thursday are unknown, so fantasy managers should consider the 26-year-old left-handed slugger to be day-to-day for now. Jose Siri is starting in center field and batting ninth, while Jonny DeLuca is in right field and hitting third for the Rays on Friday versus Royals right-hander Seth Lugo. Lowe has been injury-prone, but his power/speed upside makes him stash-worthy if he needs another trip to the injured list. DeLuca, who has hit .260 with two homers, 13 RBI and four steals in 50 at-bats this year, would be the biggest beneficiary in terms of playing time if Lowe misses more time.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (side) was taken out of Wednesday's game against the visiting Boston Red Sox early in the second inning due to right-side tightness. Lowe is considered day-to-day for now. As of right now, it doesn't seem like a serious injury for the 26-year-old left-handed hitter, but fantasy managers will want to check back on Friday to see is Lowe is ready to go for the series opener against the visiting Kansas City Royals. The Rays have a scheduled day off on Thursday. Before departing, Lowe was hitless in his only plate appearances with a strikeout. He was replaced by Jonny DeLuca in the outfield, and DeLuca could start to see more consistent playing time in Tampa's outfield if Lowe's injury turns out to be more serious than initially indicated. Lowe didn't debut this year until May 6 due to injury but should be rostered in all fantasy leagues after hitting 20 homers, driving in 83 and stealing 32 bases in 2023.UPDATE: Unsurprisingly, manager Kevin Cash said Lowe will get an MRI exam and that it's "not ideal."
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe is not in Saturday's lineup as the Rays continue a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Lowe made his season debut on May 6 after suffering an oblique strain and a hamstring issue this offseason. Through his first ten games of the season, the 26-year-old has a .263/.333/.526 slash line with two long balls. As a result, Jonny DeLuca will get the starting nod in right field and bat in the five-hole. DeLuca has been swinging a hot bat over his past six games with a .364/.462/.455 slash line. However, the right-handed bat does face Kevin Gausman today and is best to fade in DFS. Even though Gausman has struggled with a 4.95 ERA this season, he has been dominant against right-handed batters with a 23:4 K:BB ratio, suggesting that DeLuca may have a difficult task awaiting him this afternoon.
